Discussion: As Avenatti Teases Third Kavanaugh Accuser, Dems Hold Him At Arm’s Length

Sen. Mazie Hirono

If he has something to introduce, he should do it now

Absolutely NOW is the time… we don’t need the theatrics, we simply need to sink this nomination now

I don’t think Avenatti is bluffing. He does have to release that info before the Thursday hearing. Today or tomorrow morning preferred.

The Democrat’s aversion to “the spotlight” is part of why we keep losing major elections. People don’t want leaders who try to blend back into the crowd. We want … leaders. Avenatti uses the spotlight brilliantly. We should study his methods closely. And he works on his own schedule. That’s leadership; that’'s performance, in the positive sense. That’s how to succeed.

They seem much less inclined to get on board with Avenatti’s mystery woman

What exactly are they supposed to “get on board” with? Nobody knows anything at this point. We’re supposed to be the sensible party, not a legion of Louie Gohmerts raging about what someone forwarded to us in an ALL-CAPS email.

Exactly! He’s an arrogant jerk, but he’s an effective arrogant jerk who happens to be on our side. Deplore the messenger if you must, but don’t reject the message.

I fully support Hirono’s position. If we jump on this without knowing any details, our whole case is undermined if it turns out he’s overdramatizing. There is no reason for him to withhold this information and tease it out.

They don’t have to embrace him. Any damage he does to Kavanaugh in the media is a boon to the Dems.

Anyone catch him on MSNBC last night? Wife and I both found his speech pattern odd as compared to his usual. It was very monotone, loud but precise, like he was ensuring his statements were for the record or something like that.

True, but he has delivered the goods consistently. He does need to put it out there, maybe he’s waiting for the Ramirez story to take root first.

Of course! The reason the Democrats are not jumping on board has nothing to do with his love of the spotlight. If his accuser comes forward and she sounds credible I am quite sure they will not try to distance themselves.

Maybe, but what would Ramirez’s story have to do with his client’s? Each allegation should be able to stand on it’s own, or he shouldn’t bring it up.

Preach it. He knows how to message and he knows how to use the media.

Both are skills that our ancient and out-of-touch Democratic leaders sorely lack.

And I am not being critical of Dems not jumping on board with this yet. I am just pointing out that they should pay attention and learn.

I agree, he seemed robotic.

I saw that at a friend’s house and we talked about it. It was a tone and diction I’ve only heard when people have read prepared statements meant to stand alone without any followup. Very unnatural. Maybe he thinks it added drama, the way Trump thinks scowling gives him gravitas, but it just seemed off and strange.

I’ve generally soured on Avenatti. He seemed puckishly serious before. Now he just seems like a grandstander.

There was also substantial background noise/chatter. It appeared he wanted to be very precise and that he was speaking over a cacophony he found distracting.

There you go, that was what I was shooting for.

That would make sense—we talked about the setting, too, because we evidently only started paying attention in the middle of it and it wasn’t a sound stage or anything. Was he in a restaurant or something?

I think Avenatti’s tactics are a bit mismatched for this particular venue.

However, it may be easier to judge shortly.

I like to think that we have him and his style/ skills working one angle and Ford’s more traditional crack team working others.

With any luck we get the best of both.

His “client “ may have made a mistake going to Avenatti. Why follow this cat and mouse routine if your only interest is to let the world know the facts on Kavenaugh’s poor qualifications to be on the SCOTUS? No matter how credible the client’s claims are the way this has been handled will add another demention to the discussion that should not be there. Add to this Kavanaugh and his wife on Fox and we once again have a situation that anything touched by Trump descends into chaos and disrespect for governance.
