Discussion: As Accusations Mount, Three More Yalies Retract Support From Kavanaugh

Wonder how many former Skull & Bones are one the secure lines to their brethren in Congress and saying “get that degenerate gambler/drunk/#mob shill OUT of our Yale mentions!”?

How can the SCOTUS not be permanently tainted after Mitch McConnel’s sheenanighans with the nomination proces ?

This is why you don’t sign things before reading them carefully, guys.

And yeah, as an institution for supposedly producing future leaders, that place in New Haven has not racked up a particularly good record. (Nor has that place near Boston or the one in the wilds of New Jersey.)

It’s going to take a while for the Court to recover some reputation as a relatively apolitical body. I don’t think it will ever be seen as an apolitical body again. I don’t attribute all of that to Yertle, though. As much as liberals hate Rehnquist/Roberts, folks on the right hated Earl Warren. Yertle has made things a lot worse, though.

Not one GOP senator cares about these or any other accusations. They. don’t. care. He’ll be confirmed with possibly a margin of one vote. I’m tired of not hearing enough from the Democrats. Maisie Hirono is the only one and she’s been demonized naturally. Where are Sanders and Warren?

It will be. They don’t care.

The saddest irony is that, if he does get derailed at all, it will be because the fratboys were offended Brett lied about his drinking on teevee, not that he treated women like shit.

They do not care. The Communist Republican Party wants total power and they will do anything to get it.

Hirono is getting press because she’s on the committee and is making waves about all of this. So to with Feinstein. Warren and Sanders are speaking out on Kavanaugh but because they’re not part of the hearings they’re not the focus of the media attention as much. But they’re out there speaking out and it is being reported on.

Warren and Gillibrand have been pretty vocal, and I’ve seen statements from other dems as well. Don’t make the mistake of thinking they aren’t talking just because the media doesn’t cover them wall to wall.

At any rate, what would it matter in the end? McConnell and his crew don’t care what they have to say. If he did, we’d see a real investigation and a subpoena for Mark Judge.

These Republican guys seem completely intent on looking guilty, so guilty even people who want to believe them can’t. Many people could forgive bad youthful behavior, especially if contrition was obvious, but now we have a blatant coverup.

That’s good to hear; I’m assuming that you’ve seen them on CNN, etc. (I don’t have cable so I rely on my online WaPo and NYT).

Well this is interesting pitting the Old Guard Yalies against each other. And it’s nice to see the current crop of students and faculty are trying to preserve the brand. (is this sarcasm, I’m not sure, only time will tell)

Who is this Democrat named Sanders to whom you refer?

There is an Independent Party member in the US Senate with last name Sanders. He had a real problem with a woman who tried very hard to prevent the Federalist Society from picking the next 2-3 Supreme Court justices, so I doubt you are confusing that Sanders with a Democrat.

The country says no to Kavanaugh. The GOP Senate Judiciary says F U.

Priorities.

One thing that hasn’t been discussed, yet, as far as I know, is how this Kavanaugh disaster blows the roof off of the admissions processes at the Ivy League schools. I used to tell my kids that the only tough thing about these schools is getting in. And the best way to get in is by getting into their Affirmative Action Program for the Totally Unqualified Children of Privilege— either rich alumni or rich parents who will literally pay for your admission.

I keep asking myself how Kavanaugh - a self-confessed high school drunkard and abuser - got through any legitimate screening process. And the answer is, that the process was not legitimate. Kavanaugh came from a rich family and went to an exclusive (read expensive) private school where he could take practice tests and perhaps even see SAT questions in advance, and where his “counselors” had long standing relationships with college admissions committees. This wholly unqualified person took the place of a hard working, ambitious and ethical working class kid - probably an ethnic or racial minority - who didn’t have quite the SAT scores, and had none of the advantages that Kavanaugh’s family so obviously bought. What a scandal.

I am wondering how many people are ‘still’ on the list.

On Monday Brett was talking about the ‘65 people who knew me best’ back then but that was ‘before’ Renate Schroeder Dolphin found out she was slut-shamed. I wonder how many of the girls on that list drew back their names?

“It’s sarcasm, Josh.”

“Sarcasm?”

“It’s from the Greek, sarkasmos. To bite the lips. It means that you aren’t really saying what you mean, but people will get your point. I invented it, Bartholomew named it.”

“Well, if the village idiot named it, I’m sure it’s a good thing.”

“There you go, you got it.”

“Got what?”

“Sarcasm.”

“No, I meant it.”

“Sure you did.”

“Is that sarcasm?”

“Irony, I think.”

“What’s the difference?”

“I haven’t the slightest idea.”

“So you’re being ironic now, right?”

“No, I really don’t know.”

“Maybe you should ask the idiot.”

“Now you’ve got it.”

“What?”

“Sarcasm.”
