Discussion: Artists Plant 100-Pound Bust Of Edward Snowden Onto War Memorial In NYC

Discussion for article #235058

“There’s a media landscape that has painted him as a criminal…”

Well, that’s because he stole stuff. And lied to his co-workers in the process of stealing that stuff. And ran off to foreign countries with that stolen stuff.

I guess prevaricating and moving the goalposts isn’t the exclusive right-winger pathology I was led to believe.

Hopefully they will quickly destroy that monument to a TRAITOR!

Guess the “artists” didn’t like the Oliver interview and needed something “positive” about Eddie to appear.

You know, while I’m not particularly “patriotic”, I find that to be really denigrating to those prisoners who died on that war ship during the Revolutionary War. If the sh*theads who revere Snowden truly believe he’s some kind of martyr, why desecrate someone else’s memorial? Why not create their own space? Oh, wait a minute - that’s right. Snowden is seen as a either a traitor and/or a fool by the vast majority of Americans.

This moronic stunt doesn’t change that opinion.

" You need something theatrical and large to counterbalance the Fox News-ness of the texture of the conversation out there."

Since Snowden is a right winger who expressed concern that Obama would curtail 2nd amendment rights ,he probably was a fan of Fox News.

“…though the artists noted that they fully expect their work to be destroyed.”

Guess they didn’t care that their modifications destroyed the work of the original artist.

I guess that is where I draw the line on this as well. If they, had say, just set the bust in place as a symbolic protest that would be one thing. But no, they had to take things to far and fuse it in place, likely damaging the original monument. I suppose that sort of overreaching is kind of fitting though, as a parallel of Snowden’s own overreach in not just blowing the whistle on the questionable domestic stuff, but going and leaking materials on foreign intelligence efforts as well.

Snowden as a bust? – Intriguing.

The medium for the bust was a combination of droppings? Horse muffins, cow patties, dog doo , parrot poop, bat guano , and a steamy heaping pile of fresh their dung, maybe?

Totally agree… You do not mess with memorials.

I personally find this act very insulting. It’s incredibly disrespectful to the memory of those who gave their lives in war.

I hope they smash that statue to smithereens, and force the idiots who mounted it to pay for fixing the memorial.

And I hope they sentence the idiots who did this stunt with a year or two of community service maintaining the War Memorial. Maybe they’ll learn a little something about respect.

“There’s a media landscape that has painted him as a criminal,” said one of the artists based in New York. “You need something theatrical and large to counterbalance the Fox News-iness of the texture of the conversation out there.”

actually what your doing is only going to be a negative. No one is going to look at this and change their mind’s, no they are going to look at this and dislike you even more.

He’ll always be a hero to me, as will Chelsea Manning, the opinions of the surveillance state supporters nothwithstanding. You can have Dianne Feinstein.

Hydrocal is plaster. It’s not made to last like the memorial onto which it’s secured. It’s part of the artists’ vision for the piece that it gets destroyed.

Also, hard to envision any close relative of those to whom the actual memorial is dedicated being emotionally scarred by this: it memorializes people who died over 235 years ago.
