Actually in this case it was a concerted effort by a local church to whip up its base using the videos. I get the idea they saw the videos before they were released. They weren’t relying on fox news, I think there was an organized effort by the religious right to get their troops engaged in this. Maybe strategically – to distract the religious base from gay marriage, which was a dead horse they are tired of beating.

The most venal and corrupt/compromised MSM telecast or news story is STILL what most people turn to to get a picture of social reality.
And the MSM has let the Right off the hook…
with their insistence on portraying the Republican Party as being as far from the center as the Democratic Party.
with their blind eye to the corruption caused by Citizens United
with their blind eye to the racist nature of Republican voters AND dogma
with their unequal standards for in which Democratic “misdemeanors” are equalized with Republican “felonies”
The MSM is a co-conspirator (with FOX) in our debacle of a political process.

The attacks on women’s rights, freedoms and liberties by the right wing religulous conservatives continues. They want to trample on the Constitution and destroy individual liberties. It is time to label all of the groups that espouse attacks on women’s rights hate groups.

But that is only part of it. If one were to look at any social structure, from Elementary School to The Army, to Wall Street, it would be readily seen that the young whippersnappers at the beck and call of the the Top People are more vigourous and physically powerful (and numerous) than their Superiors.
It’s not the people so much, it’s the structure they are in, the power of that structure and the inter-connectedness of the structure (among other things) to related and/or complementary structures.
In the United States, it’s named “who’s calling the Shots”…
Most “Superiors” with the kind of financial power of “call these shots”, in a variety of social structures, are pulling for Republican-esque (benefiting the Top) policies. Policies which resemble a gigantic vacuum cleaner lifting as much wealth as possible from common people to the top.
Increased productivity of U.S, workers=flat-line (or lowering in real wealth) wages
Oligarchs in
Media
Banking
Energy (read: Fossil Fuels)
etc.
Have powers most of us cannot imagine. Only this nation’s fascination with skin colour and “race” (along with related “wedge” issues) keeps too many of us (like stubborn County Clerks) from trying the imagining part.

And, the members of Congress, and the Republican Presidential candidates, are guilty of encouraging terrorism. Just imagine the outcry if they were speaking about a Christian Church in the same way, and one of those churches were burned as a result. Inciting Terrorism should be a crime under the Patriot Act.

Ignorant commenters are scary but harmless. Domestic terrorism intended to destroy a worthy nonprofit and women’s health care at the same time are dangerous.
Good luck to your sister-in-law, and agreed that the way to stop this is to let the arsonists know if they burn down one clinic PP will raise the money to build ten more.

Ordinary Americans should take on these fundamentalist conservative jihadi christianical groups that violently attack women’s rights, freedoms, liberties and health with the same legal, political and investigative tactics, determination and vehemence that the Republican party, conservative elected officials and Republican governors go after and malign ACORN, Planned Parenthood, voting rights, and organizations representing immigrants, minorities and organized labor.

At first I was suprised because the Washington State I know and love is the Washington west of the Cascades where people tend to be open minded, populations diverse, and most play well with others, even those that don’t share their particular views. Then I read the fire was in Pullman, (Eastern Washington) which isn’t politically much different than Idaho and fear, rage, fundamentalism and guns prevail. Pullman, where Washington State University is located is not as bad as some areas, but they are still behind the curve when it comes to social justice and 21st century change. When you are east of the Cascades you hear FOX News quoted a lot, thus the indifference to factual information.

I truly wish our sane politicians–more than just a couple here and there–would hold press conferences on this collection of points and how they all tie together to have been the last straw for the crazies that live amongst us. Somehow we have to start calling these people out. That said, I’m very glad to see Kim Davis and her loonies for lawyers have attracted a hell of a lot of media attention – it’s a start, but we need to call much more attention to the women’s choice issue and the voting rights/gerrymandered to hell states points as well because this all ties in together to keep heavy thumbs on the vast majority of Americans. Again, I’m also glad to see some of the hate and domestic terror crimes against minorities start to break into national news and force the biggest and most powerful lawmakers at least to acknowledge the issues make comments. Tying it all together needs to happen now. How I yearn for the “60 Minutes” type of investigative journalism (national, mainstream) of yesteryear.

I attended the trial of anti-abortion protesters who had blocked access to a clinic door. They were – to their astonishment – convicted. One of their lawyers approached a grizzled looking juror and inquired why. The juror to my joy said if it were up to him, they would have been hung since they blocked a fire door.

I would hope that younger people (for whom the crap that this country calls “journalists”, “news”, “commentary” and “Fourth Estate” is all they were socialized on) can be brought up to speed on what the Press WAS more of and WHY what is happening now is the case:
“news” as a money maker, just like game shows.
If I were born in 1988, and did not have the proper comparisons, I would call Major Garrett or Chuck Todd a “journalist” too.
I wonder whether Boomers really understand just how much their juniors have their heads filled with MSM Talking Points portraying Democrats and Republicans as both falling PRECISELY equidistant from the political center (like Tweety breaks his neck nightly trying to re-create on the air)?
And since that is the case…how does one fight this? Establish a new “network”, with all the tentacles that the MSM Monstrosity already possesses?
- Go on Twitter?
- Everybody become a “Social Media” icon?
- Keep on textin’?
- Be our own journalists, with our own editorial control?
- Fund our own excursions into the Field to find out what a real Fourth Estate would have already been doing?
We can do none of these things, satisfactorily. But we could have, long ago, selectively tuned in to the sharpest media outlets available en masse, and, through the power of our patronage, demanded our Fourth Estate back, step by step. I have seen this kind of thing happen in certain industries…believe me, if even the Corporate MSM saw that no one was watching them except idiots they would have changed long ago.
As it is, there is no reason for any of these MSM clowns to believe that they should alter what they’re doing. Which is “politics as horserace” fluff.
I know one thing… watching Chuck Todd on “Meet the Press” is part of my life I cannot get back.
