I know the problem! It’s obvious that people designing computer hardware – especially monitors and printers – are all under the age of 40.
I need new glasses, too – I’m running out of nose.

I can’t think of any better way to ensure this kid grows up distrusting authority and law enforcement than to throw him in juvenile detention at the age of 9 for a pack of gum. Well done Idaho! Keep the industrial prison complex making money.
I live not far from this small town, and my wife works there. It is a strange place with the contradictory libertarian and republican values. Nestled between Coeur d’alene and Spokane, it manages to maintain a small town feeling. By the way, it’s about a 15 minute drive from Hayden, in which the Walmart became the scene of another crime committed by a child (the very sad story of the young woman shot by her son with a gun found in her new holster purse).
I just can’t believe a kid was actually charged in the first place with theft of gum.
If the kid had just gotten some advice from George Zimmerman, he could have beaten this rap.
<snark>About time those scofflaws got what they deserved!</snark>
Besides, bullying children is more fun for these “new” police, than chasing down any real criminals.
He needed to be open-carrying, to defend his Jeezus-given right to gum! MURKA!
What color…
…was the gum?
This is the land if open carry, concealed carry, and cra cra carry.
In the same county, just after Christmas, a young woman was killed in a Walmart with her new gun pulled from her new holster purse and fired by her two year old son.
So I am glad to hear the cops in Kootenai County have finally started cracking down on this juvenile crime wave.
This is the heart of whitopia (CDA, the nearest big town, was used in Mr. Benjamin’s book). I am sure the gum was cinnamon.
Whether dicks become prosecutors or being a prosecutor turns you into a dick is one of the great chicken and egg problems of the legal profession.
So many of you guys are just mocking this story! Don’t you realize that crime in Idaho is simply BLOWING up?!?! I hope the judge will STICK it to him! Throwing this kid in jail for a good long STRETCH will give him something to CHEW on.
WTF?? Seriously… just… WTF???
The boy’s driver’s license should be revoked until he’s 16. That would be a valuable and unforgettable lesson for the wee lad.
Worth noting that the Chief of Police is the one expressing surprise that it got this far.
Of course, it’s not helpful that this article is completely lacking in sufficient detail. What’s missing from this story is that it is the store that pressed charges (the cops are obligated to bring the kids in - yes, “kids”, there is an older brother involved), but then it’s the prosecutors and courts that have decided to keep this thing rolling along when they could’ve dismissed the case sent at least the 9 year old home with a stern warning instead.
Here’s a quick read that backfills a little of those details.
This is definitely one of those cases where you don’t want to read the comments on general message boards. I made that mistake ONCE on FB. Will not do it again.
It’s a hard standard in that town, but if you don’t start at jaywalking or shop lifting, pretty soon they might descend into the depths of larceny and even murder.
