The Military Times reported that Viola said in a statement he was “deeply honored” to be nominated but cited his inability to successfully navigate the confirmation process and Defense Department rules concerning family businesses.
Wow, if only someone else in the DC swamp would do the same thing and “withdraw”.
So Vincent is Michael’s nephew and Sonny’s illegitimate son?
Badda-bing…
This guy couldn’t possibly fit in with the rest of Donnie’s gang. He seems to have some degree of integrity.
Two weeks in and he wants nothing to do with a Trump Admin…
Wise man…
This withdrawal by Vincent Viola is either really honorable or really fishy. Not in between.
There should be a full investigation into Monica Crowley’s and Vincent Viola’s withdrawals. President Trump only gets the best people.
From Viola’s wiki profile
On December 19, 2016, then-President-elect Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Viola for the position of Secretary of the Army. The choice was reported to be concerning to the nominated Secretary of Defense General James Mattis, who was reportedly not informed of the choice prior to the announcement, a position he would directly oversee, and was concerned about potential trading practices which were not yet fully investigated.
Viola might have served in the military, but first and foremost he’s a canny businessman and a sharp-eyed opportunist. The fact that Mattis was not thrilled about his nomination is an indication of what his priorities would be as Army Secretary—personal financial gain.
He is they guy that was trying to sell an airline he owns with plans to then reinvest in a Charter airline company that does subcontract work with the government. The story broke a couple of days ago. He was trying to slide that under the radar of the Conflicts review and it got found. Good he is gone. I wish that DeVos would also resign.
So he didn’t have a son he could “turn over” his companies to?
Trump:, “Hey, Vinnie, dude, why you backing out? You don’t have to divest nothin’. Look at me, kid. Just put all your assets in the hands for your family and get aboard The Trump Train. I’ve already shown everyone that there are no conflicts if you just insist they don’t exist; alternative facts, bro…alternative facts.”
Knowing nothing about the guy, it could also just be pure self-interest. If he thought the administration was a sinking ship and being part of it could hamper future prospects, staying out might be a smart choice.
Never mind, karma5230 has the goods above.
The Military Times reported that Viola said in a statement he was “deeply honored” to be nominated but cited his inability to successfully navigate the confirmation process and Defense Department rules concerning family businesses.
Adam Lanza or the Unabomber could get through the confirmation process in this administration. It’s gotta be something else.
What? After all the money she paid to get that position? Never.
Someone else. Mattis.
Absolutely. The forgotten white working-class citizens of America lost the services of another caring billionaire. The list of Trump appointments is now down to barely a handful of billionaires.
Who is trying to sabotage these appointments and strip the working class of their champions???
i’m thinking this guy is too smart to take the gig. he’s an army guy. hopping on a rudderless ship not wise. nothing good can come of it.
So the Russians don’t like this guy? Backstory?
The dominoes start to fall. Let Betsy Devos be a lesson to other nominees. Your record will be thoroughly vetted, and you will be questioned about conflicts of interest, even if El Presidente gets away with numerous conflicts of interest.
