Discussion: Army Probes Dismissal Of Jewish Lay Leaders At Fort Campbell

Speaks for itself. I try not to be an alarmist but having fundamentalists running the armed forces is about as ominous as anything we’ve seen.

That’s the problem with religion, you can only have one of them.*

The drafters were so correct with that Establishment Clause thingie.

Christians seem to have a very fragile grasp on their faith if attending a Jewish service can compromise their Religion. I have met some very good Christians in my 61 years, both of them lived their faith.

Reminds me of a lot of the coverage Al Franken used to do on his AA show back in the day, covering the creep of dominioninsts/evangelists into USAF bases and leadership. IIRC, the Air Force was a particularly fertile ground for this back in the aughts. Ominous doesn’t begin to describe it.

I recall reading about that as well. Very strong pressure to attend meetings and so forth. I’m absolutely tolerant of religion and its expression. I’m not tolerant of allowing one religion to become dominant in the damn military. That’s entirely unacceptable.

‘be offensive to their religious views’??? I guess these fundamentalists don’t really understand the whole ‘Christian’ thingy…WWJD??? They’ve been listening to Franklin Graham too much. Maybe they should actually READ the Bible…especially the part about ‘false prophets’…

We must fight the non-existent War on Christians by getting rid of all other religions and the observance of all other religious holidays and traditions. Christmas with a capital CHRIST and Easter - that’s it. Oh, and a Christiany religious 4th of July, because … Freedom.

Wanted: U.S. Military personnel. The gays and the non-Christians need not apply.

Easily explained. It was a move forced by budget cuts. What’s that you say? They weren’t paid?

WWJD? Go to a seder, of course. As he did.

This is the price of a volunteer army. Re-instate the draft, draft both men and women, and a whole lot of things that are wrong about the U.S. will change.

Mize noted that Jews on the base were encouraged to celebrate Passover on a date other than March 30, when the eight-day holiday began this year, allegedly because it conflicted with Good Friday.

Do…do they not know how this works? Like, it “conflicts” every year?

Want to make a Christianist squirm? – remind him that Jesus was a Jew.

Apparently they haven’t watched the Ten Commandments every year since, like forever.

Probably just Russian trolls. Or kids trying to get a rise out the stuffy oldsters. Or a bit of pre-Vatican 2 nostalgia. Besides, they can’t be anti-semitic: they’re very pro-Israel!

Everything ugly that you thought was dead and buried turns out to be enjoying a vigorous re-birth.

Jesus was a Jew.

Yeah, but he was British and white.

I’ve had that thought. Heavy lift politically these days, but there are strong arguments in its favor.

So, Jesus didn’t celebrate Passover?

Not when it conflicted with Good Friday.
