The way to shut these cowards up is for several big black men to show up with THEIR open-carry arms displayed and stand on the sidewalk right outside these fascists rusted-out pickup truck and stare at THEM.
They will drive away quickly (if the white cops don’t show up and shoot the black men exercising THEIR 2nd amendment rights first.)
Same thought. Yesterday was Thursday, which for most of us means it was a workday. You know, work? Pay the bills? I guess these two are welfare queens who have time to sit around all day doing nothing but fondling their barrels. Enough money to buy long guns and ammo, but they don’t have jobs? Where does that money come from? Are there street addresses for these guys?
So what are the limits of open carry in Virginia? This went on for twelve hours, so I’m thinking not much. But even if you take gun advocates at their word, the gun is there for protection, not intimidation. At what point is displaying a firearm a threat? Does their fear (why else would they need a gun) trump the fear they are purposefully imposing on the people entering and leaving that office? At what point is their “protest” armed intimidation of persons trying to peacefully exercise their rights to participate in the political process?
I’m not looking for the obvious snark about the color of their skin. That is absolutely true but not the end of the issues raised by these kinds of actions. Open carry laws, in design or implementation, are in direct conflict with constitutionally guaranteed rights of free speech and peaceable assembly which are bedrocks of our democratic system.
After reading this on our local news here in C’ville, my reply to people who were saying “Oh, this isn’t in any way intimidation!” how they would feel if a person (or persons) did the same exact thing, but were instead sitting outside of their home.
No replies yet, but I can bet that if that happened, the cops would have been called rather quickly, due to a feeling of intimidation. I know I would.
This is about a mile from where I live. I’ve walked that way many of times over the years. They will not intimidate me. If they try, they’ll get an earful. My ballot has already been cast. Jane Dittmar got my vote. So, ha!
Unfortunately, they’re well within their legal right to make such asses of themselves. However, I do believe there is a law somewhere on the books about men being required to have penises. These dudes should be careful.
This is a threat to democratic governance. The Press should be all over this. If the Press is NOT doing this, we have a problem…they will THEN be telling law-abiding Americans:
:“You are on your own”
After helping create Trump (with free MSM exposure and softball questions) the Press has a lot to answer for, even if they DO do the right thing.
My wife and I are actually a little nervous about Election day. While we hope that nothing like that would happen, there are some people (even in very blue Charlottesville) who might take up the challenge and try to do something to stop people from voting (or at least, intimidating those who go in to vote).
One hopes that the state has police forces stationed nearby all polling places on Nov. 8.
