Trump made it clear that institutional racism is not just OK with him. It is a goal.
I knew that more than a year ago because I was paying attention.
Too bad many people didnāt.
Also too bad that many people support that goal.
There are two types of Trump voters: those who voted for him in spite of his racism, and those who voted for him precisely because of his racism. I think the latter far outweighs the former.
Itās been mentioned on other comment threads that Trump psychologically needs the base to adore him as well. What better way than to pardon Arpaio?
While I realize the AZ Republic is Arpaio territory and is justifiably furious, I think pointing out Trumpās pathological addiction to worshiping crowds would have strengthened the piece.
Either way, good on them. They endorsed Clinton last fall, first time going Dem over GOP. My fave line from that editorialā
Trump responds to criticism with the petulance of verbal spit wads.
āArpaio was found guilty in July of violating a court order to cease racially profiling Latinosā¦ā
Or, as Republicans like to call it, āHonoring our heritageā.
Unless Trump is removed he will pardon everyone of his criminal friends.
He will get even with everyone in our country who refuse to honor him and the Republican Party seems to say,āGo for it Donnie.ā
Can we throw some red and yellow into the mix? Does your state have reservations? Do you know where they are?
How many Chinese/Taiwanese/etc etc do you walk by or drive by every day.
Sane southerners should be grateful to those willing to help them forget their fucked-up āheritageā by removing statues of racist traitors.
I highly doubt Trump even knows what he pardoned Arpaio for. The fact that Arpaio is a racist and supported Trump is more than enough reason for him.
This is at least a twofer. He gets to show his contempt for Latinos and the rule of law.
Then that future taint can be placed on future modern day Republicans.
ā45ā likely knows what that official paper was for and chances are he got a stiffie reading up on Arpaioās past āaccomplishmentsā.
Well, they donāt teach this untold story in school, but if you wanna talk about āsane southernersāā¦
Every state in the Confederacy ā save South Carolina ā raised military units for the Union.
All told, Confederate states contributed 55 Union regiments to the Civil War.
Over 100,000 Southern loyalists chose to fight against treason.
They comprised more troops than Lee or any other rebel leader ever commanded at any time:
- Tennessee = 42,000.
- North Carolina = 25,000.
- Virginia = 22,000.
- Arkansas = 10,000.
- Louisiana = 7,000.
- Florida = 3,500.
- Alabama = 3,000.
- Texas = 2,200.
- Mississippi = 545.
- Georgia = 400.
These Southern heroes risked far more than any secessionist ever did.
If captured, their entire family faced summary execution at the hands of their own neighbors.
So the GOP ā the Party of Lincoln ā wants statues to honor āSouthern Heritageā?
(And, oh, the stunning irony in thatā¦)
Cool ā Iāll even donate.
As long as they commemorate these brave Sons of the South ā and not those traitors they routed.
WOW.
I did not know that.
Thereās a reason why.
Itās called āerasing historyāā¦
By the way Trump (you too Arpaio ), accepting that pardon means admitting guilt. So ixnay on the erohay.
Scum sticks together.
Thank Arizona Republic for pointing that out.
Kind of the way they erased women out of almost all of human history unless they couldnāt avoid it.
If Mrs. āBut her emails!ā were President, and had done the same thing, there would be prime time news specials, both on the history of the pardon power, and on the crimes and abuses of Arpaio.
The public deserves no less now that Trump has taken this extraordinary step.
We could use those sort of brave and patriotic Southerners today. Not nearly enough of them.
