Discussion: Arizona Inmate Dies 2 Hours After Execution Began, Lawyers Say

Discussion for article #225473

I home this inmates family sues the State of Arizona for every last cent it has on the basis of cruel and unusual punishment. I hope the judge that allowed with execution to go forward has nightmares for the rest of his life.

“Cruel and unusual” was the first phrase to occur to me after reading this, too.

These headlines are getting ridiculous – let me point out a “botched execution” is one where the subject lives.

This may have been sloppy, it was not “botched”

I hope this is not part of some GOTP conspiracy to show that the government really doesn’t work.

The degree of civilization in a society can be judged by entering its prisons. Fyodor Dostoevsky. What the hell is going on.This has happened repeatedly.I know their horrible convicts but this is sick, and it needs to stop.

The only thing ridiculous here is your know-it-all comment. I’d suggest looking up words in the dictionary before posting unnecessary comments like you did here.

Botch - carry out (a task) badly or carelessly.“the ability to take on any task without botching it”
synonyms: bungle, mismanage, mishandle, make a mess of, mess up, make a hash of, muff, fluff, foul up, screw up, flub

It is horrific his execution was botched, but he was a big part of putting himself in this horrible situation. In other words, if he hadn’t callously executed his victims, there would have been no botching.

The State of Arizona is culpable. May the suing begin.

How much taxpayer money is spent on these dumb chemicals when there are far more efficient ways of disposing of someone? Of course, you won’t here the wingnut outrage about that. The truth is that it’s not spending they hate, it’s where the spending goes. They’re fine with government spending as long as it goes to phony Boehner lawsuits, Israel, the military (which has stated that it doesn’t want the money), etc. rather than giving the poor basic necessities or towards the VA so veterans can get proper care.

An execution that takes an hour and a half is most certainly BOTCHED.

“…for more than an hour and a half…”

Fortunately, the witnesses were not harmed. … ?

So, in other words, a “big part” of you is okay with this 90-minute execution?

When a poster suggests that a condemned man is ultimately responsible when the state turns his execution into a torture session, it so reminds me of people saying women in short skirts who have been raped shouldn’t have dressed so provocatively.

If they sue I hope they lose.

A vicious murderer died a vicious death. Checkmate!

Given the ease with which hundreds of these lethal-injection executions have taken place in the past, it’s starting to look like these southern states are screwing them up on purpose, just for a little extra deterrent.

Well, why have lethal injections at all? They’re much too soft-hearted. Let’s flay the fuckers and dip them in boiling oil – how 'bout that?

hhhhmmm…botch: to bungle, to spoil. Spoil- to damage so as to make useless.

Webster’s New World.

“Botched” in the context of an execution that was carried out does not make sense.

Last I heard it was the “death” penalty not the “revenge” penalty. It’s called the 8th amendment to the constitution. Check it out.

Eh. Loser needed to be in agony, because he was convicted: our United States of America, today.

So we sentence to death people, and if they die horrifying deaths, all the better for it.

Also? And I understand that I’m going against the grain here, but Dietz felt he was “entitled” to his wife. So yeah, call this a mixed bag of reaction from me. Dear Mr. Dietz: you didn’t own your wife, asshole, and you didn’t deserve the way you died.
