Discussion: Arianna Huffington Stepping Down As Editor-In-Chief Of The Huffington Post

She got her start as an anti-Clinton back in the 90s. How appropriate that she won’t be around for the second Clinton administration.

Maybe HuffPo can stop publishing anti-science, anti-vax bullshit now?

One way to “improve the well-being of their staffers” might be to actually pay the people who create your product.

Pay no attention to newbie (actually beej) lazyriver. It won’t be around long.

I have a visceral dislike toward Huffington. As a writer, it makes me sick to my stomach that she has gotten so rich while treating workers like slaves. Working for free = slavery. It’s one thing to have done it when she was just getting started and this was all brand new, but once she was worth hundreds of millions, it was no longer appropriate or moral. I see her on Bill Maher’s show talking about the middle class and it makes me want to puke.

I have been very lucky, but I work in corporate and have always worked. There is not one day of my labor for which I haven’t been compensated. But I can’t imagine the stress of writing all these articles and getting absolutely nothing in return.

OK, rant over…

Yep. Cashing out. Apparently HuffPo has yet to turn a profit according to the WSJ article I read…So she’s going back to peddling her new age bullshit…this time in the workplace. Seems to have always been her first love anyway. You could kinda see this coming when she sold out to AOL awhile back.

I noticed something was up when they eliminated their mish-mosh of articles from allowing the “quick read” option on their articles, went to sending people to paywall sites without notifying the reader beforehand and keeping old stories cluttering up their pages for days if not weeks. Can’t even find the cute animal videos as easily as I used to, which is still the main reason I go there.

Breitbart was part of this?

Yep. Proved that Arianna didn’t have a “liberal awakening.” She just found a marketing niche.

If Huffington thinks she’s going to convince Americans to put down their Cheetos, Fritos and burritos and exercise more she’s in for a sadly disappointing smackdown with reality. Fat is where it’s at dontcha know?

While the comments at HufPo aren’t in a league with those here I did see “velveeta Racoon” there. Kinda like it.

Its been garbage ever since AOL bought it.

I didn’t click it. This is TPM. Welcome.

That was a rant?

Huffington will leave the company in coming weeks to run Thrive Global, a company focused on working with employers to improve the well-being of their staffers…"

Now how might a woman with her experience pull that off? By teaching them how to get people to work for them for free, like she did with HuffPo contrihutors?

From what I hear, she pays her staffers reasonably well but doesn’t pay for writers’ contribution to the site. Writers have to stop giving away their work for “exposure.” People die from exposure!

Arianna Huffington will be running “Thrive Global, a company focused on working with employers to improve the well-being of their staffers.”

As a board member of Uber, Huffington could start with that company. Uber drivers do not have any labor protections such as minimum wage, collective bargaining rights or recourse against arbitrary terminations. If a driver is hurt on the job, no worker’s compensation.
