Discussion: Are Wisconsin GOPers Blocking Elections To Protect Their Gerrymander?

When somebody asks, are Republicans trying to cheat to win elections, you say…YESSSS!!! Especially in Koch-owned Wisconsin.

I wish that I could “LIKE” this comment a thousand times! OT: Our supermajority Republican legislature here in Indiana can’t get their s**t together and are coming back at a cost of thousands of dollars to finish what they couldn’t finish during their normal session. Oh, but they banned eyeball tattooing and approved Alcohol sales on Sunday. Republicans always know what their priorities are. /s

Even if they were to change the law, I cannot fathom how it would affect a situation that arose BEFORE they changed it. Retroactively valid legislation is illegal in this country. Otherwise, the democrats could win this fall and pass a law making it a felony to manipulate district boundaries for political purposes and put the entire GOP caucus in jail. As much as I would LOVE to see Scotty’s face when that happened, it’s not legal to do this.

The judge ruled based on the law as it was written. The status of special elections is set by existing rules at the time the positions came open. Passing a new law will apply exclusively to NEW vacancies. Frankly the judge should issue a preemptive ruling to that effect and make it clear that the legislative and executive leadership will be held in contempt if they don’t hold the elections as required. Then, arrests should be made.

Think you need to slow your roll on that particular Nixon speculation, amigo.

Your own avatar holds the answer:

“Dewey, Cheatem and Howe” :smirk:

The kicker: The affected districts will not be represented when the law that disenfrachises them is passed.

Republicans argue that holding these races now would be costly and pointless, since the legislature has finished its regular session for the year. But there is a critical matter pending that could require lawmakers to reconvene in Madison: redistricting.

MY COMMENTS

  1. __ IF __ THE SPECIAL ELECTION IS __ NOT __ HELD IN TIME TO SEAT PEOPLE BEFORE SCOTUS RULES ON REDISTRICTING __ AND __ THEY RULE __ TO __ REDISTRICT (CAUSING A SPECIAL SESSION OF THE LEGISLATURE) __ THEN __ A PENALTY __ MUST __ BE PAID.

FROM ARTICLE

Thanks in part to their gerrymander,

Republicans currently hold 63 of 99 seats in the Assembly

99 - 63 = 36

10 % = 3.6 ROUNDED UP = 4 PEOPLE

and 18 of 33 seats in the Senate.

33 - 18 = 15

10 % = 1.5 ROUNDED UP = 2 PEOPLE

PLUS THE 2 OPEN SEATS = 5 ASSEMBLY 3 SENATE

So Democratic
wins in the special elections would still leave the GOP firmly in
control. But, especially if Democrats pick up the Senate seat,
Republicans could be left with a little less room to maneuver during the
map-drawing process.

  1. __ MY __ SUGGESTION

10 % ( ) OF THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PARTIES EACH CHAMBER GOES TO THE DEMOCRATS __ ONLY __ DURING THE MAP REDRAWING.

TO BE PICKED BY A __ SERIES __ OF 52 DECK CARD DRAWS FROM __ ALL __ COUNTY AND
CITY __ DEMOCRATIC __ COMMISSIONERS / MAYORS / REPRESENTATIVES.
