Discussion: Are Avenatti’s Cohen Revelations Helping Or Hurting Stormy's Case?

I doubt its doing harm, he is getting attention and causing others involved to talk about the case, which often leads to making the case better for Stormy. I also wouldn’t be surprised if Stormy is liking how much its bothering drump/cohen.

This Qatar Investment Authority, Trump and the constantly changing sale of a stake in Rosneft (Russia’s giant state oil company) is itself worth a movie. Initially the deal was a 19% stake to QIA and the Swiss mining company Glencore. More recently you had this private Chinese oil company, CEFC, show up to take over most of the stake, only to have its CEO get in trouble with Xi, the deal undone, and QIA and its subsidiary ending up with most of the stake. Oil price from $40 to $70 a barrel. And somehow this goes back to Trump, Tom Barrack, Jared and Eric Prince. Head scratching.

I do have to admit that some of what Avenatti has released lately seems much more in line with Mueller’s investigation than with the Stormy Daniel’s case.

On the other hand, everything in T rump’s world is all stuffed in a blender and chopped and mixed to kingdom come. I’m sure his pillow-talk with Hannity only furthers the commission of some crime he has going on. That’s who he is. That’s what he does.

Yea, it’s not just about Stormy anymore. She’ll make out (sorry 'bout that). Avenatti will make sure. And MSN seems to love him as well. That leaves us with Trump, the victim in all this. Stormy’s fault.

If a smart experienced media whore lawyer and a curvy hot blond porn star can torment the Ornage Pustule Hitler for everyday he fouls the Oval office then …then maybe there is a god.

He’s exposing the stunning depths of the corruption. Trump will engage in policy harmful to the U.S. if he can make a dollar.

Stormy had a pretty good payday for a little discomfort. Why would she need the NDA lifted? We all have a vivid imagination and I personally do not care to see what else could be disclosed. Avenatti should disclose whatever he can get his hands on to expose Trump and his ilk for the un-American trash they are and reap the benefit of any publicity resulting from that.

He should try to recapture his “Nature Boy” tan he started with, it suited him well.

Uhm… I am a guy, but even as a guy, i have to tell you that there is no payday in the universe that could make sex with T rump seem comfortable. Even if i was gay, there is no way in Hell, and no amount of money that could buy me off to do that sort of thing.

This is a different kind of case than most. Avenatti is challenging Cohen and Trump. Trump is using the bully-pulpit of the Presidency to go after any that challenge him. The influence on the case is already there. In this conflict, Avenatti has to engage or fail.

So the question is how to balance the PR side with the legal end. PR is often not seen as appropriate or fair for settling legal issues, but keep in mind this is a civil case. Often there exists public information on a case before trial when it involves public institutions. However, if it helps or hurts in the particular of certain legal issues of this particular case, well, not a lawyer.

“If they don’t like it, tough shit”

is a message that a whole lot of Dem congresscritters ought to learn.

It is her chosen profession. Just like a dentist might work on a delicious looking pink and pearly white patient, the next mouth he looks in might be “Ghouliani’s” lower jar. It is all in a days work.

I’ve said it before, this guy has way too much ego. As to Cohen, he is revealing nothing that Mueller does not already know, and I am sure Mueller does not want a lot of this stuff in the mainstream (or known to people he is questioning) until he is done questioning everyone, especially Trump.

The only thing he should be doing at this point is doing investigation on who it was that threatened Ms. Daniels. That’s his client. It’s almost like this guy wants a talk show gig at some point.

Many like that fact that he is tormenting Trump, but I want Trump impeached or bankrupted, not tormented. That might feel good, but if he is still the President and pretty wealthy, he gets the last laugh.

This is a really weird article. It shows that TPM is falling into the trap being laid by an envious MSM made to look ridiculous by a previously unknown attorney who has pretty much single-handedly broken open the mind-boggling corruption of Trump and his bagman. Sure, Avenatti should be scrutinized. If there’s something he’s done wrong, say so. But a vaguely hostile headline followed up by a nothingburger piece that merely thickens “clouds and shadows” generated by the GOP propaganda machine is not good journalism.

As regards the narrow question posed:

  1. Who gives a fuck if it helps Stormy? Why should we care, unless we’re Stormy?

  2. Yes. The Cohen revelations help Stormy’s case. A lot. If Cohen is revealed to be a hustler and conman with no scruples and principles, of course that frigging helps a case in which Stormy alleges that the NDA was a fraudulent hustle and not an enforceable agreement. If Cohen is revealed to be at the center of Trump’s inner circle to the extent that he receives Qatari emissaries bearing bribes, that will make the notion that Trump knew nothing about Cohen’s activities on his behalf all the less probable. It will make Stormy’s allegation that she and her child were menaced all the more plausible.

  3. More broadly, Avenatti is taking an oppressive, fabulously rich, and crooked entity–Trump. He cannot take a backward step. He must broaden the battle into the realm of public opinion, where Trump is vulnerable.

  4. Avenatti is certainly helping the Mueller investigation. There was an outcry when Cohen, hiding behind the ‘personal lawyer’ shield, was the subject of search and seizure order. Now, not so much. Thanks, Avenatti.

Enough with the handwringing, please. Avenatti is a pitbull. Let him do his thing. If he falls, that his business, not ours.

Avenatti’s strategy is to get Trump and Cohen to cry uncle and formally agree to release Daniels from the NDA and drop any counterclaims, and to enter into a large settlement. So everything he is doing is in his client’s interests. He is gathering evidence that he could use at trial to demonstrate patterns of extortion, intimidation, hush payments, which are packaged and offered as a service for the connected and corrupt wealthy elites. It’s not Avenatti’s fault that Trump and Cohen use the same business model with respect to laundering Russian money and financing Russian ‘collusion’ as they do for paying off porn stars.

I’m actually surprised that some legal scholars don’t see this. It’s very relevant if Cohen and Trump are on the stand. You have to convince a jury that the whole deal was a corrupt bargain intended to avoid larger consequences on the political side. You have to convince a jury that the payments were structured with the intent to violate the campaign finance law to the detriment of his client. To do that, as an attorney you’d want to gather evidence that the defendants have engaged in similar behavior using similar models. You might not get every example through the barriers of the evidence rules, but you might get more than enough to persuade a jury.

Tormenting Trump might lead to a stroke or a heart attack which would solve our national problem a lot quicker than impeachment and without the cooperation of Republicans. Torment away, Avenatti.

I agree. Trump’s incessant ‘witch hunt’ claim actually has traction with a big part of the electorate.
Avenatti is helping to counter that and, in my opinion, is providing needed support for Mueller.
It’s a ‘Reality TV’ world; I’m just happy that someone is playing this game to good effect.

It’s HIS client. HE is supposed to care, it’s his job. And that is what the article is about, does it help her or not?

No, he’s not helping, he’s hurting it because Mueller is still questioning people, and he may not want many of these things out in the open at this point. He would rather question people when they have as little knowledge as possible.

Who gives a shit about “outcry”. What matters will be when the investigation concludes and it is shown that the search and seizure were totally legit. In fact, on the right Avenatti is causing more outcry. But either way, who gives a shit about outcry. We have found out that Trump THRIVES on outcry either way as well. He needs to be brought down through legal means and investigation, and Mr. Mueller does not need or want Mr. Avenatti “helping” out.

No, I don’t want him remembered as a martyr type who was the “greatest president ever until the liberals murdered him”. I want him taken down with facts, documents, etc., and to be remembered as a disgraced public figure, and hopefully close to bankrupt. I’d MUCH rather see that.
