Discussion: AP Poll: Most Voters Are Open To Candidates Who Aren't Very Religious

Separate Church from State, is the way our governments are meant to be!

Religion as expressed in christian fundamentalism is a proxy for racism and conservatism. If you are a religious liberal, that don’t mean shit to the fundamentalists.

By the way, “patriotism” is the same way. If you are a liberal veteran, that don’t mean shit. You get swift boated or the Max Cleland treatment.

It makes me sad that the number is even as high as it is, but that’s actually below the Keyes Crazification Factor. Pretty impressive.

Roughly two-thirds of Republicans said it’s at least moderately important that a candidate has strong religious beliefs, compared with 37 percent of Democrats

This is likely due to the fact that Democrats care more about morals than those evangelical republicans who think they can screw their neighbor’s wife, then off the whole family, before accepting Jesus as their personal savior; putting a bullet in their head; and sail off into heaven.

Note that many of these are the same ones who are always mocking about the 70 virgins the suicide bomber gets… is there any difference … if so I just don’t see it

A very compelling case can be made religion is the root of all evil. Everyone should just accept you’re born, you die, that’s the end of it all, and in between follow the Golden Rule. This planet would be a lot better off.

Is there a single elected office holder in Congress who says they’re an atheist?

I agree 100%. As a heaven’s I’m going to hell, LIBERAL, the only time any religion comes into my decision on a vote is when they are the fundamental fundie. Then it is usually 2nd, 3rd, 4th consideration as 99.99% of the time the person has been ruled out based on the ® or other issues such as racism…

As long as people fear death they’re likely going to believe in the great invisible man in the sky who offers them eternal life - well as long as you don’t piss him off that is.Then it’s eternal flames in Hell.

I’m still waiting for the GOP and the Supreme Court to demand the release of all the inmates at Guantanamo who are guilty of nothing more than following their sincerely held religious beliefs.

If you’re a liberal I’d hope that indicates you have a modicum of intelligence and would do something more productive and ethical with your time than serving in the military.

Seven of ten ignoramuses, morons and/or nincompoops who believe all our lives and everything else is ruled over by all-seeing invisible magical ghosts, support Trump.

Also, when we see here that a majority of religiots of no matter whatever bent, flava or preversion support the role of religiocity in public policy re: poverty, doesn’t that all REALLY mean:

first, that each respondent really means HIS moral leprosy, not that of YOUR eternal hell fueling weakass sickosexual twisted bitter bull excretions, and
second, ain’t they all really sayin’,

Mister Preznit, Don’t give them dirty beggars no food nor medsin nor no place to say, they’s all just gonna take thet hand out an’ climb on back into they Caddyshack L Doritos and drive straight back to them drug dens an’ sex pods in Nnnnnnnnnniiiiiotnice Town?
We don’t want the gummint takin’ no chances on no wild-goose gummint program that might not maybe even work or could backfire, NOSIR, we want to stick with what got us all here.

Thus, per widely popular supported and approved Public Policy, the next Congress will bring home, once again: The Pray Away the Poors Act of forever since LBJ, with it’s memorable preamble:

Lord, oh my dear sweet lord and savior Swedish hippy hair baby Jesus: please answer my prayers and git them dirty smelly poors outta my face.

Bible thumpers suck.
Many of the ones I know have a past life of sex , drugs and booze.
They got scared, found Jesus, and condemn everyone that is living their past.

It’s more than that. It’s the agony of losing a person or people who, to an extent, define us. That permanent loss of a loved one(s) for many causes intolerable pain. Hope exists in the potential of a reunion. I understand and empathize with that sort of pain and wishful solution without personally buying into the concept of a heaven.

Trump’s stance on political endorsements by clergy is one of many reasons he has retained strong support among white evangelical Christians,

Doubtless, white evangelical Christians are also moved to support Drumpf by his embodiment and enactment of all seven of the deadly sins. He is, after all, living proof that they exist! (s)

Yeah, but what about all the worthless bastards you have to rub wings with when you get there? Hoepfully there’s some kind of red lining, or at least exclusive clubs of some sort. If dying doesn’t result in me seeing the last of Frank Wallbrown I’m going to be sorely disappointed.

Should be a mandatory prerequisite for candidacy…
