“under the House GOP’s plans, states next year would be given federal block grants for aid programs they could establish”
Teatroll Rosetta Stone: “We want to give GOP state legislatures and administrations more slush-fund money to balance their budgets after giving the wealthy more tax cuts.”
- Vote to repeal Obamacare. Have Obama veto that one.
- Vote to reinstate subsidies, but with several poison pills to destroy Obamacare. Get another veto.
- Do nothing else.
- Blame Obama for next 10 years.
Am I missing anything?
Plain & simple
- If SCOTUS goes against Obamacare - GOP will scramble for a weak patch to avoid election damage.
- If SCOTUS preserves Obamacare - GOP will redouble efforts to destroy it via any means available.
How do they “help the people” without “helping the law”? Wouldn’t helping the people entail restoring subsidies?
Their Plan B is the same one they use for everything : rely on the ignorance of the average voter and blame Obama and the Dems, with the help of Fox News et al.
As with many AP articles, this is just BS. Pure BS. The GOP has lots o’ stuff planned but nothing will actually go through. Why? Because too many Rethugs were sent to the House for the specific purpose of getting rid of the ACA. Period. Not create a “stop gap” measure; get rid of it.
As one Rethug lawmaker (Huelskamp??) said, he didn’t care about the subsidies and wouldn’t do anything about their loss because most of his constituents weren’t getting them now so what’s the big deal, huh?
I don’t know if anyone heard this, but Hillary spoke out forcefully on this lawsuit the other day, describing its reasoning as “contorted,” and she said she would work to protect the “guarantee of coverage” that is included in the ACA – thereby ensuring that in the event of an adverse Supreme Court ruling this will become a 2016 campaign issue to hang around the Republicans’ necks.
Yes: If you get sick and are uninsured, die quickly.
yes indeed. might get your wish but just don’t want it right now because it might make us look bad. So lets give them a present until we can steal it back later.
OHHHH so politically genius.
Hey bonehead, hasert needs a little feel sorry for me moment. He misses you. lol
But the GOP has ALWAYS had a Plan B when it comes to health care:
“…states next year would be given federal block grants for aid programs…”
And that money will never been seen again, at least for its intended purpose. States are notorious for siphoning off federal funds for nefarious purposes.
What do you think Sam Brownback would do with that money when he has a $400 million budget shortfall? Or Jindal with a $1.6 BILLION shortfall? Or Christie? Or Rauner? Or Walker? Or Alabama’s Bentley, facing a long-term $702 million shortfall? Block grants are for criminals.
See Governor Brownback on how to raise taxes without raising taxes. Not as elegant as Bruce Lee’s the art of “fighting without fighting”, but B for bullshit, I mean effort.
Just having SCOTUS gut Obamacare makes this a campaign issue hanging around their collective necks. It means that each and every one of them has to develop…and talk about…their own healthcare plan to replace ACA.
And at this point, they have created such a toxic swamp regarding ANY discussion of government healthcare plans, that any such talk will NOT be well received by the base. It bores their base, who suffer from healthcare fatigue worst than rest of America.
At the same time, nobody in Congress can move forward with any plan because…they don’t know who their leader is going to be, and what his plan will look like.
Just watch the size of the gap this time between Leadership and the caucus. Boehner will not be able to get anything through the House, and McConnell isn’t going to fare much better.
Agree, this lawsuit threatens to eat the GOP presidential candidates and the Republican leadership alive.
It will be interesting, given Romney’s “Obama gifts” comments that were so widely accepted and parroted by the right wing, how they try to thread the needle on even something like the Johnson bill, which is the GOP wants to extend the subsidies until after the election, keep the no denial for pre-existing conditions but do away with the individual mandate. The individual mandate is what pays for keeping the premiums at the levels they are…but in this GOP plan, they want to give everyone a big gift and magically hope premiums stay low…or explode the budget by trying to subsidize HUGE premium increases.
Even these plans being floated are not serious…the underlying math simply doesn’t work in any of them. Yet the media continues to act as if these are Very Serious valid back up plans.
Boehner sure can’t expect 100+ House Dems to put a GOP plan over-the-top this time.
Plan BS from Outer Space
The GOP plan is to remove the legs they don’t like from the 3-legged stool.
