Discussion: AP Fact Check: Trump's Counter-Terror Speech Needs A Lot Of Asterisks

Asterisks, my ass! It needs Lysol disinfectant and a Brillo pad!

Just clip this GOP detector to Donny’s lapel. It will read the same after every speech he delivers:

I will say this for Trump, he is going to create jobs . . . for fact checkers.

This is the worst fact check I have ever seen. Trump claims there are thousand of Muslims in America worse than this shooter. Why didn’t they fact check that? Trump implied that the President knows more than he is letting on and is sympathetic with the radical Muslim cause. Another bald faced lie, unless he has some proof. The AP didn’t touch that either, yet in some lame attempt at false equivelency, they find some minor BS on Hillary to throw in to show they both lie? Please.

Bending over backwards to find some reason not to downcheck Trump; bending over backwards to find a reason to downcheck Hillary.

Yep, that’s the AP. Fournier may be gone, but he was the epitome of the AP way.

I believe the clinical term for the type of journalism (journamalism?) practiced at the AP is “Broderistic/Brooksian Bothsiderism”. It can be cured with either a regimen of penicillin injections or guillotines.

Both TPM and the AP are giong to lose their credentials from the Trump campaign if they keep this up. Can’t have any critical stories.

Well I guess both sides do it! Thank God for the AP for providing a completely neutral, objective point of view.

Far be it from me to challenge this objective assessment, but is Trump saying that Clinton wants to ban guns, abolish the 2nd Amendment and only leave terrorists with guns really only “overstating Clinton’s gun proposals”? So I guess if I say the AP is a terrorist group whose sole aim is kill American citizens and destroy the country I am just slightly exaggerating what this news organization is all about.

Also: How does this–“Being investigated by law enforcement does not bar a person from buying a gun”— count as a “correction” of this— “If the FBI is watching you for a suspected terrorist link, you shouldn’t be able to just go buy a gun with no questions asked. … If you’re too dangerous to get on a plane, you are too dangerous to buy a gun in America.”? To unsophisticated minds it would seem that the AP is exactly confirming what Clinton said. But I’m sure there is a deep explanation somewhere.

Every article that covers any of the myriad spewings of this candidate, be it speech, interview or whatever, should contain a disclaimer: The opinions expressed herein are hazardous to your mental health. Consume with caution.

Maybe even, like here in Europe on cigarette packages, with a skull and crossbones for the semi-literate.

False equivalency at its finest:

Trump accused the President of the United States of treason while Hillary cited a study that compared data from two different datasets. Oh, the horror.

Yes but some people have accused the president of treason. Doesn’t that count as evidence for its truth?

After all, look at how the AP “corrects” Hillary’s assertion that people on no fly lists shouldn’t be able to buy guns: “Gun rights advocates argue that placement on such a list doesn’t give people adequate due process to justify revoking their constitutional right to bear arms.”

To be fair, which of Trump’s speeches doesn’t require fact-checking?

I would say that you should have a due process to justify putting you on the No Fly List, and a process to challenge you placement on that list. Nothing to do with owning or purchasing a gun, the terrorist no fly list is rife with errors. Give all of us a way to challenge our name on it and the Gun Nuts objections disappear.
