Discussion: Anti-Sharia Law Rallies To Be Held In Many U.S. Cities

They do I know. This one is such a head shaker, though. I’ve seen plenty of Liberals freak out over W and claim we were all going to camps or that W would never leave office, etc. Equally silly. I’ve seen Liberals freak out over the possibility of martial law - what all those things have in common is that someone had the ability to do those things, though they didn’t and wouldn’t.

But this is so demonstrably far fetched…I can’t think what they can point to as evidence that this is a danger.

Next they can have a march against unicorns, and the press can continue covering them as if they are addressing a real, if distant, possibility.

Where are these “liberals” who “freak out” about such things? I’m a bedrock liberal and I’ve never known a single person who believed that crap. The only conspiracy theory I’ve seen some liberals buy into are the fringe nuts who think 9/11 was an inside job.

Yep as usual it’s projection. If you’re a Christian Dominionist, you’d naturally think that Muslims were trying to impose Shariah law everywhere.

I don’t know where you were during W’s presidency, but plenty of my fellow libs at Eschaton were utterly convinced that W would never leave office, that Cheney was going to impose martial law, and even some who thought we’d wind up in camps.

That’s the key to it.

To be followed shortly by their heralded anti-Catholic and anti-Jewish demonstrations. It’s going to be The Summer of Christian Hypocrites…and morons.

It’s a shame they aren’t letting the Young Republicans organize the festivities or they could call it the Summer of Drunken Christian Hypocrites.

I’m looking for the Republican Far Right to take on birth control just like they did abortion. They are going to turn their self-righteous Pro Life dogs loose on any American woman who dares to say no to condoms and date rape.

That is never something I was worried about them trying under W, but this current batch? With the lines they have been willing to cross between Gorsuch and the whole Russia thing? And with folks like this starting to hold armed rallies? I’ll admit to being a little concerned about what future lines they might be willing to cross.

Looks more like a ‘Gay Bikers for Jesus’ rally to me.

When and where are the, Anti-Middle Aged White Dude with Way Too many Guns and Bombs and Knives, rallies?

These ‘fellas’ don’t like the parts of Sharia about holding women down and controlling their personal rights or the being anti-to other religions part especially.
And that is why they march against Sharia because they are against being against and all for equality.
Doh!

Totally agree. Some of those very things that seemed silly have already happened since Trump took office - just not to Liberals, but to plenty of immigrants and a lot of them are us in that they’ve lived here their whole lives.

I was just making the point that in fact the things that freaked us out under W are not things that weren’t possible - they were under the right circumstances. Some of those circumstances have now emerged.

Sharia Law on the other hand, they are pulling right out of their asses and the pols are preying on the fears of idiots who don’t understand that we already have laws - the Constitution governs this country, not the president.

The Goddamn United States Constitution is in charge of the United States of America. Not the goddamned president.

Reminds me of a Simpson’s episode where Ned Flanders and family are considering a vacation to a Christian Leadership summer camp. The brochure’s itinerary included morning classes on sexual repression, to be followed with afternoon classes in learning how to become more judgmental.

Having been educated at Catholic schools, I laughed but didn’t really see anything funny about it.

Maronite Christian

That’s all you need to know.

I’ve seen plenty of Liberals freak out over W and claim we were all going to camps or that W would never leave office, etc. Equally silly.

What about worrying that Trump would never admit an election loss or agree to a peaceful transition of power? Silly?

Asking for a friend.

And zeroing in on the irrelevant.

My friend said so.

The extremes are fighting again about yet another non-issue…

Just ask them why they consider the Bible wrong in the three Scriptures where it advocates separation of church and state.

Then if a Trumpista gets upset, you can always accuse him of idolatry and putting The Donald above The Lord.

Not true.

Maronites are Lebanese people who were first converted to Catholicism by St. Maron, a fourth century Lebanese monk. The Maronite Church is Roman Catholic, but is not a part of the Latin Rite, it is part of the Antiochan Rite.

The Roman Catholic Church allowed the Maronite Catholics the ability to preserve some of their customs and traditions because they predate much of the Catholic community, particularly that of Western Europe.

Lebanese people feel ethnically and culturally distinct from Arabs. In pre-Christian times they were known as Phoenecians, and they were a seafaring, trading people. They were reputed to have reached southern Africa and as far north as Ireland. In the Old Testament there is talk of how Hiram of Phoenicia helped build the first temple of Jerusalem, partly with the cedars of Lebanon.

Lebanon has long been an occupied region, first by the Romans, then the Arabs. Napoleon won influence in the Middle East, and then after World War I it fell under a British protectorate and became independent afer World War II. After the creation of the state of Israel, many Palestinians fled to Lebanon. Lebanon failed to assimilate the refugees, and there is a lot of resentment over the realignment that lingers to this day and frequent clashes. For decades neighboring Syria intrigued against Lebanon. Despite the polarization, Lebanon’s government provides for the election of Christians as well as Shiite and Sunni Muslims.

The Phalangists are a neo-Nazi political party with ties that date back to Spain’s Franco, but they are not synonymous with the Maronite community.
