Let’s review: Opponents of marriage equality argued that granting same-sex couples to marry will end traditional marriage. Now that marriage equality is the law of the land, some of these opponents are trying to deny marriage to everyone. A self-fulfilling prophecy!
Yes, and it’s not even about that. The icky feeling conservatives get is, let’s face it, mostly about man-on-man buttsex. But the marriage issue is not about intimate private lives or buttsex or any sex (especially after they get married, amirite? ba-dum tssh). It’s about civil marriage. Not sex. Marriage.
Denying someone the right to get married because the image of them having sex is icky to you (not you, Marioth, the generic “you”) is completely inappropriate. RIGHT, MISSISSIPPI?
Conservatives always make it about the icky buttsex and the “ramming down our throats” phrasing (weird, right?). But it ain’t about that. Not until the honeymoon.
Of course not because divorce does not evoke images of two men engaging in anal intercourse. All of this deeply held religious belief bullshit is a smokescreen used to hide these peoples oogey boogey feelings about their constant dreams of two grown men getting it on. Seems to me that those who are against gay marriage think more about hot sweaty hard gay sex than those gay couples they oppose. Such juvenile, repressed, and small minded people. It always comes back to the sex with them. Love is never even mentioned, never.
Yes contempt of court, put them in house arrest, so we don’t have to pay for their room and board. Then we need to quit giving them press time. A simple line, ??# judges in x state won’t comply with law. Putting their names and quotes is again giving them “prime time” and continues to stir up unrest. Hyperbolically speaking they could be “inciting to riot”.
May I go to one of these states and may I issues licenses when I get there? Or may anyone in the state issues licenses? Or maybe a notary public should stand in front of the closed office and issue licenses, officially stamped.
Or maybe the clerk could do their job, or be charged with fraudulently collecting pay for a job not done.
If these bible humping creeps won’t do their jobs, immediately fire or arrest them and replace them. It’s a simple matter. If they want to be martyrs for their local “Jesus hates anyone who doesn’t believe what I believe” house of the Big Skygod, let them and show them the door pronto. Their religious views have no damned place in a public and publicly funded place of business. Do your job or get out.
In the United States, we avoid forcing anyone’s conscience. Thus, Davis has a clear and simple way to avoid any damage to his tender conscience: resign. There is no obligation to serve in public office: it’s a choice on officers’ part, and they are free to resign without punishment, animus, or further disadvantage.
I respect (though disagree with) those county clerks around the south, and the country, who have decided to resign rather than do something that injures their conscience. That shows that they truly value their beliefs, which is their right and privilege – and not one to be taken lightly. But to take a public charge, then refuse to fulfill its obligations out of personal conscience that deviates from the law is not brave, nor honorable. It’s the response of a child who wants to eat his cake and have it to: “my conscience won’t let me do my public job, but let me keep my public job and all of its benefits anyway”.
Davis and public officials who make similar demands deserve no respect, since their conscience is clearly not truly worth very much to them. They are violating the terms of the public trust they have agreed and often sworn to uphold, and therefore should resign or be fired.
No one is forcing me to do my job, if I were asked to do something I truly believed was wrong, I would quit. These folks don’t have any true courage, only the hope that someone conservative group will give them a bunch of money to cry about the evils of gay sex on Fox news.
These inbred fundamentalist scum need to get the message: you swore an oath on a bible to defend the constitution. You didn’t swear an oath on the constitution to defend the bible.
I don’t believe they have any real religious conviction until they start lighting themselves on fire. Get me a few hundred of these county clerk candles a’going then I’ll believe they love Jesus. Until then, pft. Posers!!!
Any other person of any other denomination or faith or of no faith, can and does either resign or not take a job if the required duties are contrary to his or her moral beliefs. Only these special few believe that they don’t have to do their job and yet they can keep it.
Do your job or get out of the way! It’s that simple.
In other news, what’s-his-name and I went in the Franklin Co (Columbus OH) clerks office yesterday and got our license in 5 minutes. We had pre-registered online. You show your ID, swear you are sober, type in your Social Security number and they print.
Do you think we are rushing into this after living together for 30 years?
These public officials have a ministerial duty to issue the licenses that their offices issue. They have no discretion. They cannot pick and choose. If they cannot do their job consistent with their faith, then they should quit. If they want to stay in office, then they have to do their jobs. If they refuse, then they should be removed from office and lose their pension/permanent health care benefits for breach of their duties (because they hate big government, you know). I do not favor putting them in jail because I do not want to spend any more money on them than we need to. Let them go be a greater at Hobby Lobby.
