Discussion for article #240114
Well said.
Yup. Spot on.
Simple, reasonable, legally sound, fair policy. . . which is why the religious right won’t acknowledge it.
Absolument! Vive l’etat séculier![1]
[1]After that stupid comment by Fiorina, I’ve decided to brush up on my French.
Uh oh. This could be a tough one for the right-wing nuts. They usually trip over themselves to show how good a friend they are of “the Jews,” but this will make them choose between them or a Christian martyr. What will they do? Haha just kidding. If American Jews ever think the GOP actually cares about them (other than as pawns in their End Times fantasies) I hope they take a moment to look at the Republicans lining up to support Saint Kim.
She probably can’t leave an $80K job given that she’s likely unqualified to earn over minimum wage elsewhere (that’s half based on the fact that county clerk skills don’t transfer to many other jobs and that’s all she’s ever done, and half snark).
My best guess is that if she’s forced to leave the job, she’ll be able to survive to retirement age on the malpractice settlement with the incompetent idiot lawyers who allowed her to think any result other than jail was possible in this matter.
Goddamn Jews, what do they know about our Judeo-Christian heritage?!?
She’s been getting spectaculary, breath-takingly bad advice from her attorneys. Almost unbelievably bad. I’d love to see some disbarment proceedings arise out of this.
Jesus-lovers forget Matthew 12:17 when it suits them.
I would love to see the reaction in the Bible Belt if an Orthodox Jewish County Clerk/ Registrar refused to issue an occupancy permit to Red Lobster because shellfish is an abomination.
You assume that her lawyers care about anything other than making their rather inane, illegal and completely fucked up point?
I wonder if he meant that statement for those people in congress who are siding with Israel over America on the Iran deal?
You know what the sad thing is? It’s that in this country, somebody has to make statements like this.
Nah, they did a CYA with the judge today by asking if Kim could be released if she agreed not to interfere with the issuance of marriage licenses. That way they could deflect criticism that they had lead their client down a path to her own destruction. They knew that she wouldn’t agree to this, but they made sure that they established with the Court that they were advising their client of all her options. Of course, they will continue to use her to lobby for contributions to fight “judicial tyranny” and maybe they will share some of the proceeds with her.
How are we going to nullify laws we don’t like if we do that?
What if my religious values demand that I shoot Republicans in the face? Is that really murder?
Do I risk going to hell or do I reload?
WWJD?
Well, grifters gotta grift.
In other news which TPM strangely but characteristically deems unworthy of note, President Obama picked up three more pro-Iran deal votes in the Senate today: Heitkamp, Booker and Warner, arguably among the most iffy. Just four of the last seven will get us to 41 and lots of unhappy GOPers, always a cause for rejoicing (and a far more fitting one, in my view, than a deluded old lady sitting in jail.)
She and President McKinley have just joined the martyrs-of-the-15-minutes club in the right-wing mediasphere.
