Discussion: Anti-Abortion Hardliners Not Backing Down From A Shutdown Fight With Leadership

Discussion for article #240476

Isn’t it ironic that after all of the braying that’s been done by the GOP regarding President Obama’s “Appeasements” they are now, well, having to appease themselves?

Just a reminder Mister Speaker, appeasement of right wing hard-liners has, historically, never worked out well.

Pass some popcorn.

If only Roe v. Wade had gone all the way and finally made abortion legal, we wouldn’t need to entertain these Talibangelical nitwits because Congress would deal with rights and laws, not tantrums.

Asked by TPM Monday whether the separate bills were enough to address the calls to defund Planned Parenthood, Americans United For Life’s top lawyer Ovide Lamontagne said via email, “No, Congress should do whatever it can to defund Planned Parenthood until all viable options are exhausted.”

Absolutely. If the Republicans in Congress didn’t have a collective temper tantrum every few months or so, the American people would suspect something was wrong, and start to get nervous.

If conservatives really believe in life…

DEFUND WAR!

I would give anything to be able to ask one of these dishonest dunderheads “What exactly are these hideous things of which Planned Parenthood is accused?” Because there is absolutely nothing that is a) true or b) illegal. I’m so sick of the lying. They know PP didn’t do anything wrong, which is why they keep saying they’re shocked by the “allegations”. Jerks.

Obstructionists will effectively shut down the GOP. Have at it, wingnuts!

one thing that’s really frustrating about all this is the obvious… if the Republican leadership really believed in responsible governance they’d just ignore these assholes… there are plenty of votes on the Democratic side to pass a responsible budget that includes Planned Parenthood funding…

"It is up to President Obama to make clear why he believes our government has no higher priority than guaranteeing that the abortion industry continue the piecemeal sale of the unborn without losing a drop of their federal revenue stream,” states Marjorie Dannenfelser, President of The Susan B. Anthony List.

That’s not how this works, Marjorie–you see, you are the one accusing him of such–it’s on you to prove your accusation.

Personally, I’m beginning to believe what they really mean is they believe in Aristocratic (Preferably White) Life. All others are there for the protection thereof.

Now that’s just crazy talk. Everyone knows that, for republicans, the right to life ends at birth.

Can’t wait until there is a “war on abortion” declared. Then, like the war on drugs and the war on poverty, did not stop drugs or poverty… abortions will continue we will hear about it occasionally on a news program. Besides, the republican plan is to have enough people born so that the gun industry will have enough targets.

Exactly, JC. That’s why I have absolutely no sympathy for Boehner or any of the other so-called Repub “leaders”. They have the power to marginalize the assholes who are sabotaging them, but their response is to beg and cajole, and then be led to slaughter.

Tough. You sleep in your bed the way you’ve made it.

America is a country full of dolts. I commute to work on bumpy highways with unusable lanes, surrounded by inadequate public schools with crowded classrooms and teacher shortages, and this is what the GOP focuses on, shutting down the government over a legal procedure? Once and for all can we shut these folks up. All journalists have to do is investigate and divulge the private sexual lives of conservative congressmen. Expose all of the closeted gays and mistresses who’ve had abortions. Even George W. had at least two girlfriends who’ve had abortions. If they want to invade the privacy of women, then let’s expose their skeletons.

despite the maneuvering by leaders to vent their feigned outrage over the videos.

Seriously, if PP vowed to never provide a single sample to a research lab in the future, does anyone believe that would satisfy the hardliners?

It’s unfortunate Planned Parenthood botched the hidden video tapings. They could have done this in a fashion that left no doubt their funding needed stripped and everyone could move on. Why didn’t the secretly filmed reps jabber on about their plots with ISIS, their murdering of puppies and kittens and their satanic sacrifices of virgins? Geez, they half-ass everything. They were perfectly willing to look partially inhumane, why not go all the way?

Yes, the population will even care. Some people are really passionate about this issue. Particularly some on the pro-life side. It is the reason some states have so many restrictions now. And from their point of view this is just basically an excuse to attack it now. False controversy or not. The general public is not anywhere near as passionate about it.

Remember when the hard liners said the same thing about the ACA? Worked out well then. Polling may indicate some negative feelings about the ACA, but most of it is people being told the wrong stuff for so long. People did not hate it as much as most conservatives did. And their hate of it was driven mainly by ideology.

Like most political things. You look for examples that prove your bias.

What is wrong with these people? They want to defund the service or shut down the government on the basis of videos they know are fraudulent? This is a shameful way to govern.

Two questions.

  1. Where are the Dems? Will we ever hear a peep out of congressional supporters of women’s healthcare?

  2. When is Tierney Sneed going to explicitly acknowledge in her reporting the the videos were tendentiously doctored?
