Discussion: Another Moderate Comes Out Against The GOP Obamacare Repeal Bill

The light has been turned on and the cockroaches are beetling off.

Shorter GOP: We want an enhanced ObamaCare. ObamaCare 2.0 must increase taxes on the rich and improve premiums and deductibles AND pay for tax corridors that Obama initially set up.

So why don’t we continue with a very positive, optimistic Friday? The sun is coming out.

One reason I don’t mind living close to Siberia is the near complete lack of cockroaches. I’ve experienced the alternative, in tropical climates.

Here in NY24 our Rep. Katko has said he’s against it, too. (Though he did vote to fast-track it last night.)

Don’t know if this will be the tipping point …
but I still cling to the hope that there is a point at which the pendulum reverses course - that a critical mass of generally reasonable people - regardless of specific political outlook - become nauseated with the spleen venting / hate mongering / and all of the childish self-absorbed raging against the admonition to behave responsibly … and they say
“ENOUGH! we are all in this together and boring holes in the poor people’s end of the boat does nobody any good”

“I also want a process that is more deliberate, open and transparent, and that is focused actually on the doctor-patient relationship and lowering costs for everyone,” the statement continued.

Canada: “Psssst. Hey, you. Yeah, you. C’mover here a minute, I got something you really oughtta see. Seriously, you’re not gonna believe how well this thing works. Pretty cool, huh? Go ahead, try it, I promise you you’ll never go back to that clunky old thing you got goin’ on down there.”

OT: Anyone else read this in John Judis’ Editors Blog piece on manufacturing and think it rang false?

During the campaign, Democrats closely associated to Clinton mocked not merely Trump’s contention that he would bring back jobs, but the very idea that it was desirable to do so.

My memory was that what Democrats mocked was the assertion that Trump could bring the jobs back in large numbers, or that he could do so by renegotiating trade agreements. Clinton (and most experts in the energy field) did indicate that it wasn’t desirable to try to reverse the decline in coal-mining jobs, but that has nothing to do with manufacturing.

Did I miss something, or is Judis tackling a straw man? I notice that his piece argues for Democrats to claim the issue that manufacturing jobs are important, but he provides almost no action that a Democrat could take or could propose to encourage more manufacturing in the US. The only thing he mentioned was that the Trump budget cut some programs that are helpful.

The bottom line is that you don’t reduce health care costs`by allowing crappy policies to be sold at bargain prices. That has ZERO impact on health care costs. You reduce healthcare costs by reducing unnecessary procedures and performing those procedures that are necessary at reduced prices.

The “plan” is to see which GOPers are traitors, but I think most of the caucus will vote against AHCA. Prediction: Trump flees to Mar-a-Diablo.

This is what country needs. I highly doubt that this is what GOP wants.

Once again, want to lower costs? take the PROFIT out of the system. Period.

Good luck with that Rep. The problem with you guys is you started your legislation with repealing because you hate Obama…then you decided to make this a tax break for the 1-2% of this country. You never FOCUSED on health care or lowering costs or have an actual PLAN for the nation. Maybe shift your priorities next time.

You also remove the profit from the equation , you know, the mark up to pay executives and marketing?

Also, you regulate drug costs.

There are no “moderate” Rethugs any more. They are either conservative or ultra-conservative. Were there any moderates, they could have moved the party towards a re-working of the ACA during the six years they controlled the House rather than holding masturbatory “repeal” votes every other week.

Gee, if only there were other countries in the world where they spend less on health care but have better results. Maybe we could borrow some ideas from them. Too bad that’s crazy talk.

As an amateur photographer, to use an example, no one is going to bring back the consumer optical/camera industry. The industry is firmly based in the Far East centered around Japan, South Korea, Thailand, and increasingly China.

Now it might be possible to reinvigorate such an industry here in the U.S., but it would involve yuuge backing from the Federal Government in the form of incentives and even capital investment. But I doubt that would be acceptable to our Randian friends. And then there would be the issue of training workers and establishng profitability and market demand, fair wages for workers, etc. Basically, American consumer optical and electronics ain’t coming back in our lifetime and I will continue to support the economies of the aforementioned countries.

After listening to constituents, business leaders and medical professionals throughout my district . . . .

While other republicans only listen to the billionaires who want to screw us while strengthening themselves by weakening government.
