Produce is expensive, and in the past many kids who live in food deserts aren’t exposed to different kinds of produce, unless you count Fritos as a vegetable. This is changing here in DC with innovations in the school lunch programs to reduce fat and increase and expose children to different kinds of vegetables, school gardening projects, and DC government allowing SNAP and Get Fresh recipients to buy produce at Farmers Markets.
Many kids are upset they got rid of the chocolate milk, including my daughter. The rumor was Michelle Obama took away their chocolate milk.
