Discussion for article #237941
Truth is I miss his blog. He frequently annoyed me, but on this topic I always agreed with him.
Iām glad he got to see this in his lifetime.
the exclusion of gay people from this institution
And this marriage thing not being the only one. I remember pushing to get him on a summerās āInside Washingtonā in the late 80s/early 90s but flying monkeys would have been easier booking at the time.
Mr. Sullivan should just post occasionally or keep a light on for occasional hackers.
I was pleasantly un-surprised to see him comment. Andrew toiled long and hard for this day, and he was up against not only social conservatives, but much of his own community.
Iāve seen things I never thought I would in my life - the Berlin Wall coming down, Nelson Mandela walking out of prison. You can add this to the list.
And Justice Roberts, your concern trolling about gay couples not getting everyoneās approval is noted - but do you feel Loving did the same for inter-racial couples? The GOPās jurists seem to have a blinkered view of minority rights, unless itās religious proselytizers or the 1%ā¦
still not dead? Huh.
He annoyed me too, at times, but Iām glad he got to see this as well. And his post reminded me how much I always enjoyed and respected his writing.
I was surprised, but glad. As soon as I heard the news, I wondered what his take would be, and wished that the blog was still running. I knew heād say something, but I figured it would turn up somewhere else, and that weād have to wait longer for it.
I donāt know anything about the legal reasoning, but I have to think that this is going to strike a blow against most types of legal discrimination against our gay fellow citizens, that it wonāt be confined just to marriage. It seems like a really big deal to me.
I went back and read this:
And in that spirit, Iād like to give a shout out to Evan Wolfson on this very good day.
I really liked him even though his writing and rants and freakouts drove my batshit. From the bottom of my heart I wish him the best and tip my hat to his huge part in the movement. Iām glad for both that he has time to relish this victory and I no longer have to read his take on the world today.
I liked him enough to be a paid subscriber, and there are few of those for me. But I was quoted as a āDissent of the dayā more than once on his site. I think his is the only blog Iāve ever been mad enough at to privately email to argue a point. I loved him 85% of the timeā¦
Right? I was a paid subscriber too and was lucky enough to get a VFYW picture chosen. And I emailed the HELL out of that guy. Mark of someone truly great at their craft. Instill loyalty and kindness and trust even in those that get absolutely sick of your shit, but keep coming back for more. HA!!
I mean it when I say I wish him well. Heās earned the easy life from here on out.
i posted this elsewhere, but here goes again:
i donāt know if anyone has pointed this out, but this opinion was handed down EXACTLY 12 years to the day after Lawrence v. Texas was handed down by the Court, invalidating anti-sodomy laws. June 26, 2003. I know, because it was the headline the next day, which was the day my son was born.
we have come a long, long way, perhaps starting on this day exactly 12 years ago.

You are a person after my own heart. I was a charter subscriber too, and both loved and was exasperated by The Dish.
After he quit, I honestly was in withdrawal for several weeks.
As a decadent fifth-columnist in my coastal enclave, I cheer and wish for Andrew another Bush War.
Yeah, but I do give some credit to those who at least admit they were so wrong. I guess because so few do, especially conservatives.
Iām glad heās back, at least for now. I used to read The Dish all the time. I wish Andrew well and hope he will stick around.
Iām happy for he and his kind, but I also remember that this little narcissistic twit championed the president who put on the court two of the votes to consign his ilk to outer darkness.
Mr. Sullivan supported George Bush for President, who appointed Roberts and Alito, two of the four votes against gay marriage.
Timing sometimes you got sometimes you donāt. This one of the latter.
When you got on economic issues he drove me nuts!
Amen.
