Discussion: Andrew Kaczynski, Buzzfeed's Political Research Team Head To CNN

Buzzfeed’s been doing some real good work trying to be a solid news outfit, and the problem with being a start-up news organization (as TPM has likely noticed) is that you essentially are farm club status with your best talent getting poached on the regular.

“Vice and BuzzFeed are legitimate news organizations.”

No, the actual quote was…

“I don’t think Vice and BuzzFeed are legitimate news organizations.”

Good hire. It’s always a feeling of mixed emotions when a valuable member of your team moves on to bigger opportunities. I hope this doesn’t effect Andrew’s prolific presence on Twitter.

Kaczynski, along with Kyle Blaine, Nate McDermott, and Christopher Massie, have scoured past and recent interviews of the presidential candidates for Buzzfeed.

Hmmm. So they are being hired for their censorship skills?

Way to make current staff feel crappy. Geez.

Thanks. I was thinking it might be “are illegitimate news organizations”. I see that kind of 180-degrees from the original meaning typo/omission way too regularly.

Third definition of scour.

Where is CNN going to put them? They already have like a dozen people on screen minimum.

Yes, exactly what I had in mind. But, I’m intrigued by the second definition of “scour” as an intransitive verb.

They can be used as holograms.

I think CNN hasn’t done it that.way before…wait a second.

Neermind.

Buzzfeed breaks more political stories than the network that hires a Trump campaign manager who still works for the Trump campaign. Whodathunk?

I have a theory that’s how WWI got started.

Yeah, but they have to bring their own Brillo pads.

I suspect Buzzfeed will find an equal replacement, but if anything, this might improve CNN’s reporting…will wait to see.

Hey, I’m sure Lauren Fox will be snapped up by The Blaze sometime soon!

Obviously Kaczynski and his folks aren’t half the journalists that Corey Lewandowski is.

Not even a quarter. It takes four of them to balance him. Are they hiring an investigative team or a barbershop quartet? I expect they’ll spend most of their time investigating Lewandowski. That’ll be a hoot.

There are two verbs “scour” in English. One means “to scrub” or “to clean” and the other means “to search” or “to scan”

scour2
verb (used with object)

  1. to range over, as in a search: They scoured the countryside for the lost child.
  2. to run or pass quickly over or along.
    verb (used without object)
  3. to range about, as in search of something.
  4. to move rapidly or energetically.

Frank: Do you have any reason to believe that the author intended the second meaning? I assumed that “scoured” was due to a typo and that the author intended either “scored” or “secured.”
