Discussion: Anchorage Voters First In U.S. To Reject Discriminatory Bathroom Bill

It’s really not complicated, folks. If you have male equipment, use the men’s room. If you have female equipment, use the ladies room. If you think you are a different gender that what your birth gender is, get professional help in accepting your birth gender. You don’t get to choose. If I keep saying I am a Rockefeller, that doesn’t make me one.

Great idea!

Here’s what the professionals (American Psychological Association) say.

Q: "APA: What are the most effective ways to respond to discrimination against transgender people?

A: “On the part of society, we need anti-discrimination protections and equal opportunity legislation. We need education of families, schools, workplaces, health care and social service providers, faith communities, and the wider public that provides a more accurate and complete understanding of the realities of transgender people’s lives and their needs. On the part of transgender individuals, psychologists and other health and social service providers can empower them to develop resilience in coping with stigma and discrimination and to take on leadership roles in bringing about greater understanding and acceptance.”

Sex is not gender, gender is not sex. They are dealing with their birth gender. Your ignorance is self inflicted.

Trump: Alaska is the dumbest state we have. I mean Palin is from Alaska, how smart could they be!!! I am the smartest!!!

Riddle me this, Alan:

Why do we have gender-segregated bathrooms at all? The bathrooms in my home are not gender-segregated.

Fiddler on the Roof opens with Tevye singing Tradition. Tradition is why we have segregated bathrooms now. Where did the tradition develop? Do your research and you’ll learn how inane your statement is.

Bonus question: why are gender-segregated bathrooms inherently discriminatory?

That’s what they used to say about Gays and Lesbians and now look where we are! I bet that really gets stuck in your craw. :sunny:

“we’re encouraged that 47 percent of the people in Anchorage didn’t buy into the $1 million infusion that the outside LGBT activist groups poured into the city.”

Wow! Yet another case of socialist-Marxist cultural-liberal curtural-Marxist liberal-activist-socialist dirty liberals from the outside sticking their nosy noses where they don’t belong and bringing about the defeat of a vital conservative cause célèbre. How vital? All life everywhere in the universe is even in more in peril now that another noble conservative proposition has gone down to defeat.

It’s just so unfair to conservatives. I’m playing a tiny violin for them (it’s so small that I only need one hand to do it, which is good because I’m giving them the virtual finger with the other hand).

This isn’t about bathrooms. It’s about floating propositions that will animate and unite the Republican base whatever the outcome of the vote. Imagine if the Democrats organized propositions that made slavery expressly unconstitutional under state law. A totally superfluous move, yes; but by the time you’re done with the whole process, the GOP emerges as the pro-slavery or lukewarm-on-slavery party. You have to give the GOP credit for mastering the dark arts, especially on the local level. Thankfully grassroots Dems are fighting back with great success and the national apparatus of the Democratic party is beginning to understand that in order to win it should follow, not lead.

This must be very disconcerting to people at FOX, Breitbart and Sinclair. And to the minority of our citizenry who hide their bigotry behind religion and keep trying to impose their bigotry on the rest of us.

Brightens up my day, a bit. Alaskans are generally conservative anti-authoritarian, with no time for nonsense, and this vote proves it. GJ Alaska! Real conservatives would never allow a morality law like this to move forward. The South should strive to be more like them, and wake up finally.

Former Alaskan here. Concur.

When the bathroom humor of Sarah Palin no longer scores for the GOP in one of these Gay Bashing Christian Right measures, you know that conservatives have burned their bridges with everyone.

The South is still trying to figure out how to open any bathroom door. A tree serves the same purpose and the technology is a lot easier to understand?

Well, not entirely, unless you include the patriarchy-lite tradition that men are predators and women are targets. Probably another couple generations and we might be done with that.

Given a choice between sharing a bathroom with a transgender person or President Donald “grabby hands” Trump, I’d go with the transgender person every time…

I don’t know why these kinds of referenda are so difficult to defeat. Simple campaign: “Under the proposed legislation, this person would be required to use the women’s room. Is that really what you want?”

"If you see this person in the women’s locker room, don’t be alarmed. Her birth certificate says “F.”
