Discussion: Amtrak CEO: Railroad Takes 'Full Responsibility' For Crash

Discussion for article #236410

I am pleased to read that the speed increase was only during the last one minute, as that shows the train was actually traveling under the 80 MPH speed limit prior to entering that area. It makes no sense that an engineer would increase speed going into the curve, especially when speed had been appropriately controlled in the miles before that. I will be interested to find out what did cause the increase in speed - what the particulars are. I just have a hard time believing that responsible conduct on the part of the engineer suddenly, for no apparent reason, turned to irresponsible conduct, such as speeding up…

someone actually taking responsibility for this tragic accident…definitly not a republicon

I know! I was actually floored when I saw that. In 2015 “taking responsibility” has become almost unAmerican! (And for the Repukilkkklans, it will NEVER happen.)

Let’s see! FOX Noise has already suggested it was the fault of gay people because the idea that the engineer is gay is so very relevant.

Tonight on FOX: “FOX investigative journalist extraordinaire, Alex Jones, has discovered that the derailment was a false flag operation run right out of the White House basement. He also has reliable sources (read: ‘voices that penetrate aluminum head wear’) that reported to him exclusively a Scooby Doo van was seen leaving the tracks shortly before the accident with wild female laughter coming from it.”

Sheeple…wake up!

Meanwhile, the National Transportation Safety Board said Thursday that in the last minute or so before the derailment, the Washington-to-New York train sped up from 70 mph until it reached more than 100 mph at a sharp bend where the maximum speed is supposed to be 50 mph.

The engineer and head brakeman HAD to notice a speed increase of 36 mph in “the last minute .”

It is so so easy to stop a train. Besides the regular control stand there are emergency brake levers In the cab and in the passenger cars. Pull them and the air brakes dump - the train goes into “emergency” - and all brakes are applied.

This is very bizarre. Given the engineeers online safety advocacy on the issue of railroad safety I have to wonder if this wasn’t him making an insane example:
