Discussion: Ammon Bundy Offered To Plead Guilty To Get Fellow Occupiers Of The Hook

C’mon, straight-shooter. If you’re guilty, just admit it. Not as part of some crooked back room deal.

None of these clowns should be allowed to plead out. They should each get a jury trial, and face sentencing by a judge unencumbered by some deal with the prosecution. Without that, the clear message will, instead, be muddied.

What a character this guy is.

What we’ve got here is failure to communicate.

Hey, TPM–proofread the headline. It sounds like these guys were occupying a hook, which sounds both visually interesting and extremely uncomfortable.

Why on Earth WOULD prosecutors consider such a deal? They have a case in which everyone charged is hyper-proud of crimes committed in front of TV cameras. Ammon remains chronically clueless.

"Bundy tried to strike the deal three day after his arrest in January
while the standoff was still ongoing, but the Oregonian reports that
prosecutors rejected it. " NOPE!

Keep your back to the wall in general population, someone will be looking to make a rep.

This is ridiculous. What a pathetic attempt at self-martyrdom.

They all broke the law, flagrantly, loudly, openly, and proudly. Now they suffer the consequences.

You don’t get to suddenly say “punish me, and only me! let my fellow criminals go!” when you all willingly broke the law.

I watched that Ken Burn documentary on the National Parks last night and it reminded me of these morons. The men who fought for the preservation of the national parks were truly visionary and originally all members of the one percent. It took them years to protect the Grand Canyon.

I doubt Ammon Bundy ever had any intention of repaying that $500,000 loan from the small business administration.

For a group who claims to carry around pocket Constitutions, they sure don’t seem to have a clue how the law actually works.

@misterneutron - I have no problem with any of them taking a plea as long as there is no deal for reduced time. These asshats need to serve the max for what they did at “Of The Hook”

yeah I can see him doin that cause he knows and his lawyer told him that they aren’t going to do that so it was all a BS ploy to make him seem like he was standing up for the idgits that were braking the law with him

how do you make a deal with an authority you profess not to believe in and that has no jurisdiction over you?

For me, the problem with that is that it allows them to continue to claim that “the people” are with them, and they’re just being victimized by the big, bad, Government wolf. Having a jury come back and say, “We find the defendants incredibly guilty” is more effective.

Wait. He tried to… negotiate? Say it ain’t so, Ammon!

Terrific. Ammon wants to come off as some kind of Christlike figure, instead of the scofflaw he is.

“He was willing to sacrifice his broader interests and risk his liberty for his fellow protesters then,"

His broader interests? Articulate please.

Mostly I’m aware only of his shallow intellect. And now this feeble attempt at being hung up on a cross.
