Iāve been trying to understand the back story on the Hammonds. From what Iāve seen hear in local reporting, it does sound like their sentences are out of whack.
Then again, theyāve said they want nothing to do with these militia guys.

All Iāve read indicates their lawyers successfully persuaded a trial judge at sentencing the mandatory minimum jail time in the statutes for their offense was excessive. He agreed and sentenced them to less. His sentencing was overruled by a higher court, essentially affirming it wasnāt within the courtās purview to lessen the sentence.
Iāve seen documentaries showing judges very upset and depressed because they couldnāt reduce very lengthy sentences meted out to people for mere grams of crack, saying their hands were tied and āmandatory minimumā meant exactly what it said. Why the hell it shouldnāt hold for the Hammonds shows the hypocrisy of the law.

They got the min for arson on federal land, 139 acres of land, over at least 2 fires (suspected of more, and poaching). Costing tax payers 600,000 dollars to respond to said fires.
On the 2nd arson case in 2006, firefighters were already fighting other fires and a burn ban was put into effect until the fires were put out, but despite that they started the fires.

Heās been pimping his father for YEARS urging him to call in late night radio shows you name it. Old man Bundy would go by an alias but would go on and on about how wonderful he was. How as a rancher the importance of having large swaths of land. Then specifically cite the federal land as part of his own as his āexpansionā ranch. Heād also go on about how the town around him was dead and all his family wanted to move away because well the area was dead
His plan the same way that Las Vegas was air dropped in the middle of nowhere so would his plot of land become some commune with he as the grand cleric.

Oddly enough, I have seen reported that the Hammonds, probably figuring they have enough problems, do not seem to be welcoming Mr. Bundyās championship of their cause.
