EEeeeeeeewwww!
Stay cool out there, I see itās a wee bit warm over by you.
90ās where I am. I donāt like it.
I do. Clinton was President, the Berlin Wall and communism had fallenā¦
I appreciate that he had to explain to us that that is what presidents do, he couldāt just say āiām in japanā but he needed to also tell us that he was 'representing it well" with his own patting himself on the back descriptiveā¦
Iām talking temperatures, your talking national politics. Guess they go together.
Remember when the GOPās twisted panties nearly strangled them when the Dixie Chicks said, while overseas, they were embarrassed Bush was from Texas? Remember the boycotts, angry letters, death threats?
Orange Julius Caesar just trashed two American patriots while overseas and weāll hear nary a peep from McConnell and the rest of the rancid GOP because they got tax cuts and an alt-right Supreme Court.
If you want to know what public offices are available to you in your community check this site. Enter your ZIP code to see open offices: https://www.runforoffice.org/
Become a Precinct Committee Officer, sometimes itās a Ward officer. Youāll meet with neighborhood Dems and get out the vote. Find good citizens willing to run for office. Check with your local party Chair.
Run for School Board. Make sure Civics is being properly taught. Think a majority of America knows how government works? Just 26% of eligible voters in America voted for Trump, and over half of all eligible voters just stayed home in 2016. Todayās 16-year oldās will be voting for President in 2 years. Are they ready?
Run for Mayor, City Council, County Commissioner, Borough Assembly. Get appointed to your Planning Commission. Know everything going on in your community.
Run for State Legislature or Congress. The next census is in 2020 when we redraw Congressional Districts. Stop the GOP-led gerrymandering that keeps Gohmert and King in office!
Register people to vote. If you need to help people overcome the GOP-led Voter run-around help them do that. To see your stateās voter registration requirements look here: https://www.vote.org/voter-registration-deadlines/
Download and print copies of this Federal Voter Registration form, valid in all 50 states and all US Territories. If youāre a US Citizen you can help any other US Citizen register to vote. Instructions are on the form: https://vote.gov/files/federal-voter-registration_1-25-16_english.pdf
This site, https://www.aauw.org/resource/organize-a-voter-registration-drive/, has a how-to on organizing a voter registration drive or just sitting outside Wal Mart with a folding chair and a card table.
Civics, Civility and Civilization share the same roots.
You Got To Run!
Todayās okay. Wednesday was the worst, not because the temps were high (low 90s ā Tues was nearly 100°F), but because the humidity was high and the UV index was horrid. Tomroowās supposed to be bad again. I am off over the big pond on Sunday for 2 weeks, but hubby is dreading another week of hell here.
No AC at work. I have been coming in early (6:30 or 7), and am okay until around 1:30 or 2:00, when the sun comes around to my side of the building. Then it hits hard and my strategy has been to hop in my (airconditioned) car, drive to the Aldi close by which has airconditioning, browse 15-20 mins enjoying the cold air, then I grabbed a salad and went back to work. That was enough to get me through the next couple of hours until I could go home. Colleagues literally wearing shorts and tank tops to keep cool.
No AC at home either, but the lower level of our house that goes out to the garden stays pretty consistently around 70-72°. My hubby came home early each afternoon, commandeered the desk there and returned to work later to finish up.
The Rhine is still above normal, but is sinking. They are already worrying about water. Last year it got so low that the car ferries which carrying most commuters in this area across the river to work and back home were halted for several weeks until the water rose enough to run them again. Theyāre worrying itās gonna happen again this year.
Good thing thereās no global warning.
Oh, yeah, did I mention that we have two palms trees in our yard (year round) and the banana trees hit 7 ft tall last yearā¦
Oh, I know you were, just couldnāt resist⦠Nostalgiaās just not what it used to be.
Such a small man. Unwilling to address any issue that was brought up of course. Offers nothing of substance because the reality is heās incapable of doing so. This unfit and unintelligent buffoon has nothing but his usual name-calling day in and day out. Right on cue we get one of his daily put-downs weāve all become all to familiar with. Its all heās got. Heās such an empty suit. Such a traitor to our democracy.
Nothing new here.
I knew you knew being Mr. Snarky.
Youāre in Germany, right? That sounds unusual. My brother and sister-in-law lived there for years but now are in back and forth mode. Where they lived they loved it because it didnāt get very hot.
Heās always got some black folks dispersed behind him at his rallies, but look at the pretty much all white redneck in a ball cap crowd that he faces and is his twitter backdrop. They love this shit and think exactly how he thinks too, but none of the things heās done as president will do anything but make their lives lives harder and they will still suck up his stupid shit.

They could always just rebuild the bridgeā¦
Yup. Record breaking high temps here. So hot that they reduced speed limits on some autobahn stretches because the roads were literally melting.
Weāre not the only ones: Record temps in France too.
Spent 2 months in France 2 years ago, May and June, but left before it got really hot.
On the East Coast (US) and think weāre having some pretty high temps for June.
Probably easier said than done.
when I consider roads and rail lines here in the part of the Rhine Valley where we are (pretty narrow).
Usually the only worry is flooding, when the water is too high for the ferries to safely navigate. In all the years Iāve been here last year was the first time I know of that the ferries didnāt run because of low water.
If it gets to be a regular occurrence they may have to re-think that strategy.
ETA: @castor_troy Forgot to add: itās not a matter of rebuilding a single bridge ā there are 3 car ferries that we regularly use alone here in Bonn (where we also have 3 bridges), and southward you have to get close to Koblenz before you get the next bridge. Probably a dozen towns and villages along the way with nary a bridge.
We have two ferries (one upriver, one downriver) within 5 mins drive from our house. The next bridge is downriver of us and itās about 15 mins drive. The closest bridge upriver is about 30 mins drive.
True, it was always a good defensive line.
Unfortunately, I very much doubt that will happen. Itās not just that approx. 40% of this country wonāt vote for a woman. Itās also that the remaining 60% are still somewhat fractured in what they can tolerate on an ego level and that guides their sense of leadership.
