Discussion: Amazon Adds Fuel To Cruz’s NYT Feud: ‘No Evidence’ Of Bulk Buying Book

Discussion for article #238368

Why would the NYT do this and lie about what they believed? There’s pretty much no better way they could have helped him sell books than to create this whole scenario. Anyone who can’t understand that is dumb enough to eat from the kitty box.

The problem is that those are book sellers who don’t normally deal in bulk orders, from what I’ve been able to find out.

The poor Republicans. Always the victims. Always.

The NYT found that a right-wing group paid individuals to buy the book in a vain attempt to circumvent the bulk-buying tag.

There isn’t any evidence because it did not happen. NYT is not saying that Cruz used “bulk buy” in its conventional form. That was to have a rich wing nut buy 5000 copies of your book and give them to folks. What Cruz did was a bit more sophisticated. He distributed revenue to folks to buy the book in bookstores as individual buyers.

The point is the book doesn’t sell without financial incentives…like being free. Otherwise no one wants it. Even with “strategic buying” the book has very very low sales. Ben Carson’s book has legitimately sold 25 times what Cruz’s has.

Got it.

What would Ted Cruz know about blatant falsehood?

Talk about entitlement mentality.

But you have to hand it to these assholes. They are good at what they do. There is no end to their cry babying…the IRS targeted us…religious persecution…liberal media…and this. But they successfully cast themselves as bad asses while spending most of their time squawking like babies.

The issue is being intentionally confused by Cruz. Bulk buying is what Ann Coulter used to get her books on the NYT Best. But…she did it in the classical fashion. She had a sugar daddy but 10k books then hand them out to folks. The NYT caught on and started putting that little dagger icon next to Best Sellers that got that status from purchases of many books by a single buyer. So along comes Cruz ( or his handlers ) to introduce a new scam. Don’t buy the books and give them away. Give away the money so they can buy the books. NYT is on to it.

So its not “bulk buy” in the pure sense of the phrase. But its still a scam to elevate sales above that consumer demand alone would provide. Cruz’s folks are playing a semantics game. And by the looks of it winning.

If someone were buying bulk, would they buy from amazon? I’d buy from the publisher directly. Was the NYT using amazon numbers?

EDIT: OH I see, Cruz hired a firm to hire individuals to buy books from stores and amazon.

What incentive would Amazon have for adding to the controversy? Its not like they are a bookseller who would benefit from this hype.

but the Times specified that it believes HarperCollins engaged in “strategic bulk purchases.” In essence, The Times accused Cruz’s publisher of trying to buy its way onto the bestseller list by having a firm like Result Source hire thousands of people across America to individually purchase a copy of “A Time For Truth,” in the hope that some of those retailers are on the secret list of booksellers who report their sales to the Times, or that the aggregate purchasers will simply be too high for the Times to ignore.

The Result Source website consists of a single page with just the word “ResultSource” on it and a “Contact Us” link that opens a message dialog.

http://www.resultsource.com

Yeah, nothing dodgy about that.
