Discussion: All Senate Judiciary Dems Ditch Judicial Nominations Hearing

Of course they’re packing the courts. Future election are way too important to leave up to the voters.

Democrats can not be complicit in the repubs’ plans to dominate the judicial system with right wingers

Next: just bang a gavel in the middle of the night, declare a quorum, and pass whatever you damn please.

If Grassley isn’t attending, why should the Ds? Lead by example!

Showing A$$ley the respect he deserves.

They also released the attendance record of Democratic lawmakers on the committee for previous confirmation hearings held this year to highlight how lightly attended some of the hearings were.

Well, whatever one can say about the Republicans (and one can say a lot), the above does not look good for the opposition, either.

With respect, this is a dumb, lazy, and misleading opening line:

Just when it seemed the partisan divide on the Senate Judiciary Committee couldn’t get much worse, it did.

This is not about “partisan divide”: it is about a rogue GOP manipulating and consolidating power.

Rushing is a fucking abomination:

Skipping this hearing and failing to grill her on this bullshit is unacceptable.

C’mon, AP, you even mentioned Obama v.Trump confirmation scores, yet failed to include that Repubs were notably slow walking nominations during Obama, and now are pushing through any crackpot they can under Trump (e.g., Brett Talley), as fast as they can.

It’s also an AP story. which means that it cannot reveal any facts or opinions detrimental to the Republican party. Or Trump. Or McConnell. Et.al. If McConnell were arrested for murder, the AP headline would read, "Noted Leader Caught Up in Death-Related Confusion.

The trumpp administration is not getting the attention it deserves for not having nominated and so not filled several hundred government positions which require Senate confirmation. We will see important departments and government infrastructure crumble before our eyes and moron will only say he’s all we need to have good governance. Well, not in those words. He’d use strong, good, incredible and more

Well shoot, if you can run out and score a touchdown during halftime, then even the Vikings might have a shot at the Super Bowl.

Did you miss the “AP” at the start of the story? I mean, it’s mandatory.

So, as I understand it, the Judicial Committee cannot proceed without a quorum which requires a minimum of two members of the minority party. If the Dems determined that it was OK to do this now, why didn’t they do it when it it came time to vote on advancing Kavanaugh’s nomination ? If they wanted to make a point, it seems like that was a better opportunity.

Apt point; thanks.

Village secularists? Huh? I thought the godless liberals dwelled in urban areas with the brown and/or gay people.

She described lawsuits filed by supporters of the Establishment Clause as allowing:

[E]very village secularist to charge into court with the ACLU and challenge governmental acknowledgements of religion, no matter how passive or benign.
