Discussion: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez: 'I Support Impeaching This President'

“I think what’s tough is impeachment is something that I openly support, but it’s also just the reality of having votes in the Senate to pursue that.”

Trump isn’t guilty of “supposedly” impeachable offenses. He’s the most impeachable of all time. #ITMF

I believe that starting impeachment will give the House access to all the documents and interviews, including the GJ, that Mueller and his crew performed. And anything else the judiciary Committee wants to see.
This administration’s actions in stonewalling the information will be the cause of the impeachment proceedings .

And I believe that Pelosi knows what she is doing, so when they’re at a point where they have enough to move forward, also considering political implications, she will.

I can’t argue with “Pelosi knows what she is doing.” She will hold off the shit show until a great majority of the country is calling for it. She will be able to say that Donnie Moscow brought it on himself. This will follow investigations by Nadler, Schiff, Cummings and Waters that will have the MSM having to recognize the corruption in the White House.

So do I.

I think Pelosi made a mistake last month when she stifled impeachment. Her change in rhetoric last week is a partial acknowledgement that it was a mistake.

I think the media ran a lot further with their interpretation than what she very carefully said.

For those in support of impeachment and for those that want to take it off the table, I don’t understand why they don’t until after Mueller report comes out. Make it look like you sought out all the facts before making your decision.

IMO, Pelosi is making a political decision. And I understand the reasoning behind not pursing it, if you don’t believe the Senate will convict (which they won’t) in a big election cycle.

But I think there are a lot of other considerations that have to be put on the table too. We are basically at a point where Trump and the GOP are willing to weaponize her reluctance to impeach against Dems.

And more importantly, this President is impeachable on sooooo many fronts, that choosing not to sets historic precedents that we can’t live with as a country going forward. People sometimes ask what we do after Trump, how do we return to “normal”? IMO a big part of that is impeaching him now. It will be far easier to hold the GOP to the fire after Trump for not convicting him, than it will be to take a moral position that he should have been impeached…but we didn’t do it for political reasons.

Now, I am more than willing to give her the benefit of the doubt for right now, as she is waiting for other investigations to conclude…and also waiting for the Mueller report itself. But this horseshit about writing another strongly worded letter to the IRS for his tax returns ain’t going to get us there. We need to be conducting Oversight with zealousness.

There, I’m right with you… Now, to be fair, there was a loophole in the first letter which Mnunich took advantage of (specifically, compliance… He claimed he wasn’t not complying, just put it under review… So they patched that up in the second letter, by saying that failure to comply by 23 Apr would be considered non-compliance). But anything beyond that, time to get the courts in.

Not that it won’t end up in a 5-4 victory for Trump…

Color me skeptical of that, depending on what arguments are used. Kavanaugh and Co. don’t want to close the door on future investigations into Democratic Presidents or opponents.

Because this plays into what has been a major blunder on our side all along.

That the Russia investigations and Obstructions are the only impeachable act he has committed. They aren’t. By a far cry.

As long as they’re still on the court, they will gladly take precedent out back and shoot it.

No door to close if they ensure that there can never be another Democratic President. I have not one shred of doubt that at least four of the current justices have zero regard for law at all and are just happy to advance “the agenda”.

Now you’re talking. Even if the Senate won’t convict, I think impeachment pretty much gets us to where we need to be. Instead of it backfiring on Dems, it will expose the Rs in every way possible just as we head towards elections. Clinton was an aberration…they had no business trying to impeach him. Of course it backfired on them.

ETA: I am not critical of how Ds have comported themselves since being seated as majority. I understand we have to get ready to do it right. I am only talking about whether impeachment without Senate approval is a bad thing.

Right. I think we could go after emoluments. I think we need to get going harder on the non-Mueller avenues because I fear all the eggs in the Mueller basket have been stolen.

Contrary to to the cult of personality promoted by much of the media, AOC does not, and should not, set the agenda for the Democratic Party. Pelosi understands that defeating Trump in the 2020 election, and maintaining the majority in the House, must be the overriding objectives for Democrats for the next 18 months. I trust Pelosi to make strategic judgments which will advance those objectives. I don’t trust AOC’s judgment.
