Sorry Randy, the bad news is: a thing is what it is, not what it’s blueprint says it’s supposed to be. The building is the building, not it’s blueprint. Conservatism is what it is, namely a dogmatic belief that America is God’s nation and the WASPs that came here, it’s chosen rulers. Their economic beliefs spring from the fundamental belief that the safety net is a way for minorities to siphon away the fruits of the white man’s labor. Perhaps there was a day when that was not true and ‘conservatism’ meant something else, today is not that day however.

I done already said that on the original Sajak article.

We’re supposed to judge logic and reason according to what FOX ‘News’ would say? Yes, he was couching what he said to not lose his conservative cred, that doesn’t mean what I said isn’t true. And yes, that is the middle ground cons have been coached to say in polite company.

I agree that that is what many now believe conservatism to be, and what many self-described conservatives profess, I just don’t think it’s fair to portray conservatism – as opposed to the current GOP leadership or the “conservative” movement – as monolithic.

TPM misrepresented what trebek said. he said “human” caused it -not man. i really wish that “man” sexist thing would leave the discussion.
research shows when people say man they think men. when people say humans they think both genders.

I guess we think alike.
BTW I’m also a huge fan of George Herriman’s work.

Hahaha! Perfect comment.

When everybody elected as a Republican votes in lock-step with Koch values, I think it is fair to characterize the conservative movement as monolithic.

I did note that in my comment, it’s just that I don’t see the current crop of Republicans and “conservatives” as good representatives of conservatism; rather, I would describe them as reactionaries and extremists.

Trebek’s one o’ them Yurpeen-Scandihoovian-Canuck types, born and bred, amiright?

I’m more caught by his “fiscal conservative” horsecrap. ‘I support the entire long list of liberal goals. But don’t get me wrong: I don’t support government doing anything about any of them, because that could cost me a bit off the top of the massively rich-biased tax breaks this country provides to rich folks like me. Give me cut glass crystal service for my yacht not plastic cups or give me death!’

… or at least moronic.

What does he know?

He’s Canadian.

I was going to say that he offended right wingers who watch Jeopardy…

Then I came to my senses.

I posit you are being a little too cavalier trying to claim something ‘is what it is’ since technically the ACLU is the very definition of conservatism (old school term).

But that is using it as a name for a brand or sports team, not what the term’s etymology is.

That’s an old excuse. Whenever a conservative falls out of favor, they are labeled as not true conservatives. That;s why none of them take responsibility for the failures and atrocities of G.W. Bush; surprise! He wasn’t a true conservative. Conservatives are loyal, too, or so one might have thought.

Who cares about Pat, dude runs a game show that requires people to spell. Trebek at least has a show that requires you to know things.

You just made my point. Thanx.

They used to shoot a higher percentage and passing used to be crisper in the NBA back in the day, but they still call it basketball.
