Discussion: ALEC Responds To Google: We're Not Climate Change Deniers

Discussion for article #228200

ALEC: “We’re not deniers, we’re just incredibly fucking stupid and tone-deaf”.

“Also, we’re willing to fuck the planet and doom our children for a buck”.

Shorter ALEC: climate change may hurt 95% of us and help 5% of us, but as long as WE’RE in that 5%, it’s all good!

Yes indeed, ALEC has taken climate change seriously … as to how they can personally benefit from the demise of the planet as we now know it. Do they seriously expect us to believe this crap? One good thing, the only supporters they’ll have will be the Palin supporters … who while being rather annoyingly loud, really aren’t that much of a threat, and my prayer is that ALEC follows their good example.

I’m looking forward to rising property values in DC. My house is going to be beachfront property in a few years.

Shorter ALEC: "We’re not deniers. We just believe that all this talk about climate change is largely irrelevant, since our members do not own businesses in the areas theoretically affected.

Shorter Alec: Maybe we should look into the benefits of breathing methane.

Fatal error by ALEC

As long as they could float and fund “Dr. Irwin Corey” (and his ilk) and distribute bogus “scholarship” highlighting “doubt” (like when there was lots of snow a couple of winters ago–which, ironically, was UNDERSTOOD as not in any way disproving Climate Change by reputable scientists), then they had a shot at being able to maintain their hold on Mayberry, Hooterville and Dogpatch.

But this is different: They have admitted Climate Change and now they are going to have to explain what is “good” about the climate FUBAR which just about everyone will be able to experience for him/herself.

Possible benefits of climate change -

  • plenty of free parking
  • no more Florida
  • no more pesky tourists
  • increased property values in Canada

Indeed. When you do the cost benefit analysis the cost too the planet far exceeds any benefits of increased warming. There you go, I just saved ALEC millions is institutional research cost.

Sadly, at the moment it is those very followers at every level of government who are working so hard to kill this planet, often being too ignorant to understand that they are destroying their own children’s futures. In this country, it now seems, ignorance, willful, determined ignorance, is all that matters in policy making and in corporate boardrooms. The rest of us are just fodder that can be left to rot if it is profitable.

Precisely! And ALEC conveniently ignores the fact that studies have clearly considered the benefits such as they are and they are relatively small compared to the overall costs (environmental and economic). And ALEC also conveniently ignores the threat that climate change poses to security per the Department of Defense’s concerns.

Actually, with respect to tourists: mass diapsora are expected if it continues. You think the Teatrolls are pissing vinegar about the southern border now? Just imagine it when the entire population of South Amurika decides 125 degree heat just ain’t sexy no more.

Yeah, I keep trying to figure out the downside to having most of Florida underwater. And Lousiana.

“There is no War on Women. We just actively promote legislation that is detrimental to females.”

There is some literature dealing with things like terraforming Mars and also outer space habitations like o’neill cylinders and bernal spheres.

But, for the sake of argument, let’s suppose that the 0.001% has a Plan for dealing with an earth impossible to inhabit because of Climate Change (which may occur within 30-50 years).

Will we really have the ability to launch seven million people (0.001 X 7,000,000,000) into outer space within 30 years?

And what about the 150 million TeaBaggers in the U.S. (who love ALEC and its politicians)?

They got rocket ships for THEM too?

We need to get Chuck Todd on this one ASAP
