Discussion for article #243236
Regardless of the merits (which are lacking), Grayson’s suit will be dismissed on standing, because he is not a candidate for President and thus experiences no particular harm. That is 100% certain.
So where is HER birth certificate? That is certainly a fair question, isn’t it?
Go Grayson! What’s good for the goose…
Likely it’ll be thrown out but hey, anything to plant doubt in those weak Republican voter’s minds is fine with me.
Cruz is an artificial Cuban Canadian American.
Paging Oily Taintz! Paging Oily Taintz! Emergency!
It’s all about ideology, not citizenship. The Right probably considers Benjamin Netanyahu to be more American than Barack Obama, and would gladly vote for him as President.
True that. Remember when Schwarzenegger became governor of California, there were all sorts of people on the right bleating out that he should run for President…despite the fact that he is Austrian.
I applaud the trolling effort, but if one of your parents is American, you are a natural-born American citizen. It doesn’t matter where you were born. That’s the part birthers and their made-up conspiracies never seemed to understand. President Obama could’ve been born on Mars, but since Ann Dunham was American, so is he.
…we know they prefer Putin as well.
Grayson is too smart to actually think this is what he’s pretending it is. But he does make a point. If it’s so easy for GOP’ers to see that Cruz is eligible, and he is, there is no way they actually believed what they claimed of Obama. They knew it was bullshit.
I guess the only way this would have a salient angle to all this Birther talk in general was if Cruz himself was a “Birther” that challenged the President’s own American citizenry. If not, it seems like a ridiculous effort to go after Numbnuts Cruz for what others in his party considered one of their greatest grifts to raise campaign money over the years and create the narrative of Obama “the outsider”.
Cruz is guilty of many things…I’m just not sure this is one of them. And yes, he is part of a party that never wanted to answer the definitive question when asked about President Obama’s birth certificate as being totally legitimate…but, Cruz by association with his party, in truth, shouldn’t be made the center of a new birther conspiracy now being conducted by the left.
Bad move Rep. Grayson…even though I know where you’re coming from.
Suing to bring attention to the fact that Cruz was born in Canada is very unfair … to Canadians.
McCain wasn’t born in the US either (legally the Panama Canal Zone was never part of the US). Neither his Republican opponents nor Democrats sued. Of course, as wrong as he is on most issues, McCain isn’t the totally disreputable slime-ball that Cruz is and is kind of liked by most Senate colleagues of both parties, while Cruz is universally disliked.
At the time of McCain’s birth, the Canal Zone was indeed US territory.
I have to say…Grayson has a certain flippancy, which I also see in myself at times. He has what I see as a kind of sarcasm that can be taken too seriously or literally. That’s where he often gets himself in trouble with more moderate observers, but especially rightwing fruitcakes. Its when he believes his own sarcasm that I start to worry he may have gone to far. He ends up just giving them unnecessary ammunition to go after him.
Is there a caveat in the Constitution that allows us to make Grayson president by popular decree? If so, can we please? I love this man.
Go, Alan go! The silence from the right wing over Cruz is deafening after the racist fuss they made over Obama. Where is Orly Taitz, anyway, Queen of the Birthers?
Cruz had no choice but to enter politics in the United States, rather than his native Canada. The Canadian constitution provides for a constitutional queen. No room for advancement for one of the drama variety.
Say that name one more time (3x) in a sequence–
and I’m pretty damn sure David Farrar Ex Animo will magically appear on this thread!
