Discussion: Alabama Chief Justice: SCOTUS Can't Change God's 'Organic Law' On Marriage

Discussion for article #233285

Moore…when you actually start following “God’s Law” on anything, let me know because I believe you’ve managed to violate about a dozen of them in the last week.

Excuse me sir but you were elected to uphold the constitution and laws of this country. Not a book of fairy tales.

If you cannot find it in yourself to do this you should be removed from office with malice.

The GOP, it turns out, stands for Greedy Oafish or Prejudiced.

Aw, Roy, if you want to be an Old Testament prophet, resign your current job and buy a time machine. Otherwise, STFU and get out of the way of the 21st century.

Or he could just resign, go off and become a priest, and actually, I don’t know, live according to God or something.

Don’t judges usually swear on a bible to uphold the Constitution???

You are making the best argument of all against yourself, Mr. Justice Moore. The Supreme Court of the US will settle the question of the laws of the United States, not God. Your sorry church can make its rules but they don’t apply to the laws of the United States. The courts aren’t trying to change your beliefs, they are trying to uphold US man made laws which is their charge based on the Constitution. Don’t like it? Get off the bench and get the job of running your church.

“This power over marriage, which came from God under our organic law, is
not to be redefined by the United States Supreme Court or any federal
court,” he continued."

Fortunately, Zeus has no problem whatsoever with same-sex marriage.

“When federal courts start changing our Constitution by defining words that are not even there, like marriage, they’re going to do the same thing with family in the future.”

Translation: “As a white heterosexual male from the South, I will challenge any attempt to diminish my status as an institutionally privileged citizen using whatever specious or hypocritical reasoning I think the public may buy.”

The US Constitution doesn’t mention thermonuclear warheads, either. Does that mean the federal government cannot regulate them?

I always have to heave a sigh and roll my eyes whenever self-proclaimed Christians indignantly declare that gay marriage defies “the word of God”. This argument is both cowardly and disingenuous – using biased interpretations of cherry-picked biblical passages to justify their brand of social intolerance and religious self-righteousness.

Although this self-righteous, constitutionally-clueless judge appears to believe otherwise, the United States is not a Christian theocracy.

He often wishes he could divorce Hera and marry Ganymede.

He’s wrong on both the legal and religious aspects of this.
No wonder he’s the Chief Justice in Alabama.

Which form of “Biblical Marriage” is Moore referencing?

Listen, Sparky, the definition of marriage is not the issue, it’s this line in the 14th amendment, '…no state shall deny to any person within its jurisdiction “the equal protection of the laws.” In short, what I and my (female) wife can have, so can my gay nephew and his partner.

Roy Moore is toast, and he won’t be getting support from Fox.

This man is clearly uneducated and willfully choosing subversion when it comes to the law on marriage as a civil right. His ignorance of the law is frightening, but the historical facts remain, handed down by the Supreme Court in their decisions on this matter. Anyone with an ounce of curiosity can look it up if they are so inclined. Obviously, he is not.

Marriage is well within the protection under the Due Process Clause of the 14th Amendment to the Constitution as a civil right. He is not a minister of some religious sect chosen by a select group of congregants, nor is he entitled to play gawd in his role as a judge. He is a public official in a position to carry out the laws of Alabama and that of the federal government where the law clearly supersedes, whether he likes the particular law or not. Otherwise, he needs to be removed from the bench (again), by force of impeachment, ethics violations, and unwillingness to carry out the duties of his position as a judge. He is abusing his elected responsibilities and thereby abusing those who are forced to come before the court on any matter of law.

UHHH, Dumbass… Marriage is regulated by the states and marriage laws can’t discriminate against others who are protected by the Constitution. If you don’t believe in the supremacy of the Constitution then resign and go tell fairy tales to your minions.
