If there is any chance at all that the Trump admin will take climate change seriously Gore should make his case. It is a powerful one. Like it or not, the Orange Horror listens to Ivanka. I don’t have any hope that it will make any difference whatsoever but give Gore some credit for at least walking into that disgusting tower of corruption to try to make a case for saving some of life as we know it on the planet.

I just don’t understand all of the support for Ivanka personally or in terms of her having so much control over policy issues. She made one decent speech where she claimed to support women’s and family issues - so what? She hasn’t worked (with her money or her time) for policies that help anyone except the ultra wealthy. Talk is cheap and, by meeting with her as if she is some elected official, we give credence to her status within government. I am not indicting Al Gore specifically as we owe him much in terms of the issues he has fought for.

Well, Gore went to meet with Ivanka, but he accomplished a meeting with the President-elect:
Gore told reporters that he spent “the bulk of the time” with the President-elect after meeting with Ivanka Trump.
Gore feels strongly that climate change should not be a partisan issue. Part of that stance is acting in good faith. Surely he knows that Trump is a lost cause, but like Obama he’s going to try his best anyway.
I’m all for calling out Trump loudly and publicly. That might be my role and my friend’s roles, but I don’t think that’s Gore’s role at this stage in the game.
As an aside, I read an interesting thread on Reddit a few days ago called “Liberals, what is your most conservative viewpoint? Conservatives, what is your most liberal viewpoint?” A fair number of conservatives cited concern about climate change as their liberal viewpoint. I was encouraged by that. Fat lot of good it does us, but still.

I think she’s considered to be one of least insane members of the Trump family, and some rumors have it that she’s fairly moderate or even liberal on some issues. I think the idea is that she could be used as somewhat of a back door liaison in dealing with some of the more insane Trump shit likely to come. She’s daddy’s little girl, and she’s got some influence over him. This might be a good thing.

All depends on how well Gore has read Trump’s character. If Gore is saying this with the basic understanding that Trump craves approval and is easily swayed by the last person he’s spoken to if that person understands Trump’s relationship with approval, I’d take it more seriously than if he doesn’t understand those things. And if Gore understands this, he will be seeking more meetings with Trump.
