Discussion for article #242409
The lesson of TWA Flight 800 is one to remember. Despite all sorts of conflicting reports from people who “saw” a missile, despite endless speculation about a bomb onboard, it eventually emerged that it was brought down by a fuel tank explosion. No terrorists involved.
Everyone of the MSM seems to be hyping this Exec, however, other articles state that the black boxes do not show any external influence, so what is it, or is the Exec trying for FUD so that their bad maintenance is not blamed??? Time will tell.
My heart goes out to the families and loved ones of the 214 Russian, 3 Ukrainian and other people killed in this tragedy.
Gee, why would the person in charge of the Airline want to say it must have been something external?..
But when pressed for more details about the type of impact and what could have caused it, Smirnov insisted that he was not at liberty to discuss details because the investigation was ongoing. He also did not explain whether he meant something had hit the plane or that some external factor had caused the crash.
Russian aviation authorities were quick to chide the company for jumping the gun on the investigation, calling its comments premature.
One of the investigators is reported as saying both that it was not struck from the outside and that there was no distress call. Very confusing.
Maybe the Dutch took things into their own hands…
As much as I wish this tragedy hadn’t happened, it’s hard not to see a bit of karma in the expressions of deep grief by Putin. He is ultimately responsible for the missile takedown of the Malaysia Air flight over the Ukraine, having put missiles in the hands of the rebels, and now gets to experience the other side of the tragedy.
Probably defensive after their offices were raided by Russian authorities. They do things a little differently in Russia, the blame games and CYA start before the smoke has cleared.
Didn’t think tanks could shoot that far.
Yes, my comment was in jest.
All kinds of nonsense being spewed out there, yes. I think I’ll believe what is in those little black boxes as well as forensic evidence.
Hell, that should have been enough to ignore what the clown said… Perhaps a relative of the Smirnov family…
I know but it’s a worthy subject. I can’t understand how the Russian authorities believe that raiding Metrojet offices builds the public trust.
Yeah. That, too. My initial thought was wondering if there were any Ukrainian separatists in the area.
Since when are the Russian authorities interested in the public trust?
All of us, even the Russians, can be grateful Putin isn’t in sole charge of the investigation of the disaster.
Looks like someone wanted them to see what it feels like!
This plane had some structural repair done in 2001 for a tail strike. It is speculated that this repair failed.
