So?
Makes one wonder, sounds like the Athletic director in a college football program just before the coach is fired. Can’t find much reason to trust good old Joe.
All the firebaggers that have attacked Manchin, tell me where he cast a deciding vote against Democratic legislation or helped Republicans filibuster legislation in this Senate. Manchin isn’t close to being the problem, as a matter of fact, it was blue dogs like him, Pryor, Landrieu and every other Senate Dem that lost which gave Elizabeth Warren power in the Senate. Now, thanks to progressives deciding to get rid of those blue dogs, Warren is now going to be a minority Senator. Congrats on a job well done!
No need to switch. He can continue to vote with the Rs enough to get wooed by them (better than given marching orders), stay right enough to be viable back home & still have plenty of time to switch before his own next election if, by that time, the R behind your name has become essential in WV.
He’s going to find that they run a “real Republican” instead of him when it comes time for re-election.
What is Manchin’s record again? Last I checked, he voted with Dems 80% of the time, and it’s because of him and other blue dogs in the Senate that gave Senator Warren her power. Now because of idiot progs that bashed blue dogs like him, Warren has no power at all!
I’m so old i can remember when, after the 1964 Democratic landslide, Republicans got all introspective and decided that they were too conservative for American voters, and the only way to return to power was to become the party of moderation.
To me, at least, it matters little whether Manchin involved himself in a filibuster or any other GOP led obstruction. What does matter to me, is that he publicly dissed this President, at a time when conservatives were doing a good enough job at that task. While I am no party loyalist, I will say the absenteeism of defenders of this President is quite disturbing, especially given the fake scandals these idiots produced at taxpayer expense. I do not recall Manchin ever speaking out about those, but perhaps someone else does.
Further, Mary Landrieu hasn’t lost and probably will not lose in her run-off as she out-performed while beating her leading opponent Bill Cassidy. Amazing since she was the ONLY Senator to call things as they were, despite the scorn by conservatives demanding an apology! Now, the remainder of progressives can ask themselves what the opportunity cost would have actually been, had they stated the obvious, made clear by Landrieu.
Finally, had so many candidates neglected to run away from this President, we all might be looking at a different result this morning. Conservatives might be a bit less arrogant about last night’s results! To be sure: both conservatives and progressives would objected to such a statement.
He doesn’t need to switch parties. We let him call himself a Dem while he behaves like a GOPer anyway.
