Discussion: After Trump Praised Him For Refusing To 'Break,' Manafort Mulling Flipping

A pardon unlocks the prison doors.

Acceptance of a pardon is a de facto admission of guilt.

Yes I’m told it is. But since he’s already acknowledged his guilt, there’s nothing de facto about it!

Yep so Manafort if he is going to plea guilty, with Mueller’s help, has to give something of value to Mueller.

How so? He’s still set for trial on a not guilty plea.

Yes. Without cooperation with Mueller, Manafort won’t get much of a ā€œdealā€ even if he pleads guilty to some of the charges.

but won’t wipe out the stench of his guilty plea

The Modern Dixie GOP, and Donald John Trump don’t care about no stinking stench…

That we’re hearing about these talks indicates the manafort defense team wants everyone (especially any orange ones) to know the talks are happening.

Precisely. We know Mueller ain’t talking.

I agree with all this, but have to think it’s going to be very hard to convince him to cooperate—the Russian mafia targets civilians. Which he knows all too well.

The operating assumption in my discussion is that Manafort pled guilty. That was the ground rule. When a defendant says, ā€œYes. I am guilty,ā€ by definition that’s an acknowledgment of guilt. Unless I don’t understand the English language!
