Plain and simple, Republicans are using scorched earth tactics on voting rights because they know they can’t win without suppressing the vote. This is a pitched battle, especially in swing states, that Dems have finally woken up to and picked up the gauntlet. In addition to Florida, look at what Republican legislators are trying to do in Wisconsin, North Carolina, and Virginia to hamstring their respective duly elected Democratic Governors.

It’s almost as if the Republicans are aware that the only way they can wil is to cheat.

It’s tempting to chalk this up to “Floridians monkeying this up…”

But @pshaw makes a very good point: GOP efforts to disenfranchise Americans is consciousness of guilt.

Republican politicians are bad-faith actors, and they know it. This is not a difference of opinion. Both sides are not doing this.

Chris Smith, a former state senator from Fort Lauderdale, called the decision to suspend Snipes after she had agreed to resign as “spiteful.”

Good luck with the voter suppression scheme when 1,000.000 citizens of Florida now have the Franchise. Do you seriously believe they will vote Republican?

Good lord! How much less opaque does the corruption need to be before we finally bring down a legal hammer on these GOoPy asshats? Or make some proper laws if this is all happening due to “loopholes”…

Oh I suspect they have a fallback plan… if suppression via archaic and draconic laws doesn’t work, a little last minute pre-election purging surely will (see Georgia for proof-of-concept in action).

Anything to win, including throwing our Republic under the bus. Mitch McConnell has taught the party well…

Poor Florida, even if they want a more democratic government they won’t get it. At least, not until they’re under water.

I’d like to know more about Ms. Snipes, why & how she did such a disastrous job. Was she sabotaged by repugs? Are the rules & regs of her job so conflicting and confusing it made the job particularly difficult?

There is a story there.

Strike “It’s almost as if” and your statement is more correct.

So, winning his election wasn’t enough for Scott eh?
Anyone in Florida intetested in a recall vote? We here in AZ can do so at the state level and i suspect we could recall a senstor.

taxpayers should no longer be burdened by paying a salary for a supervisor of elections who has already announced resignation,” Scott said

Notice to all employees: Do not give 2-week or 1-month notice as usually required for resignations. The spiteful company/state will not be burdened by paying your salary as we don’t need any transition to train the new guy (who has no experience).

The whole Florida Election System is Corrupt, nothing but a total and complete overhaul of the machines with paper backup and process needs to be done. There needs to be laws that so many polling stations and machine per district population needs to be installed, all need to be certified ready to go two days ahead of voting, all polling station need to have independent federal government certified observers oversee the voting to avoid any cheating. Too many time we have seen polling stations limited, machine that aren’t ready to go, late start to voting and every other scheme to suppress the vote of Democratic voters…While were at it add Georgia and all other states to the list so all are the same system and only access by direct line, not the internet.

Now, Scott has become purely partisan and political by suspending Dr. Snipes.

Glad she see’s the matter as such and is willing to challenge his lanky lame ass, like a WOMAN should!

She asked for more resources to update and better serve a growing population. Republican legislature said no.

A female, African-American election official is, to the racist GOP, guilty of whatever they need to accuse her of in order to get rid of her. It wouldn’t have taken a close election for the GOP to scream “voter fraud”.

Using Scott’s rational he is more than qualified to fill the position and correct any problems.

How dare the Dems interfere with GOP thefts of elections!
