Discussion: After Cruising To Reelection In PA, Sen. Casey Mulls A 2020 Run

I just don’t see it.

It is amazing how the mythic reasonableness idea still persists–the fantasy that what will win a presidential election in the USA is appealing to a white, slightly dimwitted, pipesmoking American paterfamilias of good faith somewhere in the Michigan, who listens to the radio news with his wife happily leaning on his shoulder and asking hubby to translate for her–and that the way for a Dem to reach this nonexistent real America is to cautiously pollute the country, be as boring as possible, and give the Republicans as much as is possible without actually becoming one of them.

Blue dogs can fuck off, especially those who inherited their dad’s fiefdom. I’m looking at Cuomo here too.

I live in PA. With all due respect, we don’t need Caspar Milquetoast debating Cadet Bone Spurs in 2020. Ain’t gonna work.

Tom Wolf just got re-elected Governor in PA by a wide margin. He may be a better fit as a Presidential candidate.

Neither do I and he’s my senator. Health care and the middle class? Well, good for you. Kind of goes with the territory. Other than that, he’s from Pennsylvania, he argues, and you need to win in Pennsylvania. That’s it, Bob? OK then. This is the point in the job interview where the job hunter has nothing more to say, the silence starts to get awkward, and the interviewer finally says well they have a lot of strong candidates and they’ll let you know if you need to come back for a second interview.

He is my Senator also and appears to be a good kind man but not a President.
Beating Barlleta by only 13% shows some weakness.

ā€œIt’s not crazy to see the left wing of the party splitting up votes and creating an opportunity down the middle for him,ā€ Mikus said.

It is not crazy to see the conservative wing of the party splitting up votes and creating an opportunity on the left for somebody much better, either.

He’s my senator, too. Please, no. Beating a racist like Barletta isn’t an accomplishment in a year when Dem enthusiasm (aka Philly turnout) was a given. It’s not like we had any other choices if we wanted to contain the orange shitgibbon.

Obama won in part because he was charismatic and motivated people to turn out. The policy prescriptions almost don’t matter, given the level of ignorance by the vast majority of voters of all types. Just get someone who can turn out the vote. Casey doesn’t have the star power.

If we are going to elect somebody from Pennsylania, let it be Gritty!

Sen Bob, you can do all the ā€˜mulling’ you want. Ain’t gonna happen.

Ha, I like it! Gritty vs. Grifty. Dems: We’ll see your Orange Menace and raise you one googly-eyed mascot.

I’ve voted for Casey every time he’s run for Senate, but he’s a terrible speaker. There’s no chance he could beat Trump.

Wolf would be better than Casey. My district’s representative, Mike Doyle, gives better speeches than either of them. But Casey’s clearly the worst speaker of the bunch.

Anti-choice? Hell to the no. Eff off, Bob. We ain’t going backwards.

AND THEY ARE OFF.

The 2020 race begins. A flood of candidates that will wither to a precious few in just a few short months.
