Discussion: After Crowley’s Shocking Defeat, Tim Ryan Mulls Pelosi Challenge

Yeah, a midwestern milquetoast white male is really gonna excite the base… :unamused:

Pelosi should be challenged, but she’ll make mince meat of this clown.

I’m just excited to see the possibility of some new (younger) blood in leadership.

Nancy “Pay-Go” Pelosi has got to go. If we retake the House in November, it will be in spite of her. If we lose the House (again), it will be because of her.

Personally, I’d like to see Barbara Lee as the next Speaker.

Um, not quite Tim. Ocasio-Cortez’s win was really a specific situation to this area. Sure, it can be replicated around the country in certain areas but this is not representative some sort of wave of young, inexperienced people racing to the top of the Party. And, in any case, OC is basically the opposite of Ryan. I have no doubt that Pelosi is starting to prepare younger people who she thinks will be ready to step into certain positions.

Sit down Tim and be quiet.

Agreed on both counts.

He’s not saying he represents the same constituencies as she does. He’s simply saying that Crowley’s loss opens up a leadership spot — and that’s just a fact.

Yes, it opens up a leadership spot. Fine. BUT, it’s necessarily going to be filled with the likes of young, inexperienced people. And he’s not that anyway.

Why not? A good fight keeps everyone on their toes. And imagine the confusion in the world of right-wing direct marketing without Pelosi! Thats a few years of mailings that will need to be tabled and rewritten. May have to sub out the old gold standard or flat Earth alarmist mailings in the interim.

Geeze, this probably is not the best time for the Democratic Party to start another circular firing squad squabbling over leadership. Maybe after the midterms would be a better idea?

Do not be fooled. Tim Ryan is a product of the areas Democratic machine, he worked for Trafficant.

Way to feed the narrative that the Democratic Party is in disarray when survival of the republic is literally at stake.

Yes, he’s not a progressive.

Personally, I may never forgive his vote against the National “Do Not Call” Registry.

The only people who were ‘shocked’ were beltway types, and the meme is repeated.

Er … Tim Ryan himself was one of those people …

LOL! Christ, she’s almost EIGHTY! “starting to prepare younger people”. What, sixty year old reps? She lost the House in historic fashion, and helped lose the presidency. And Republicans raise as much money off of her as she raises for Democrats. Time to go. Good job and all but time to go.

There you go! The first and biggest voice doom, straight out of the box.

I think Pelosi should be speaker for the next term.

Her experience is paramount with Trump and Repubs in the WH.

That said come 2020, she should not run for speaker, as I agree with others here that younger blood is needed to better reflect the base.

The position that a forward looking member should be striving for is Majority leader. This will show where the party is going while leaving experience at the helm for one more session.

After allowing the worst disaster in modern American politics to transpire, I’d be down with anything that rights the ship.

It’s Politico. What else to expect.
