Discussion for article #229912
Is the DSCC trying to commit political suicide?
The DSCC supports her 100% - morally. They’re right behind her - literally. But their money is staying in the bank. They figure they’ve lost the Senate, so what’s one more. Short on brains. Short on principles.
This is why I never contributed to the DSCC. I only gave directly to campaigns. I refuse to give to any party affiliated group like the DSCC or DCCC.
At the least, they should invest to keep the brand in front of the people. This makes her brilliant pitch to people of color, for the runoff’s sake a wasted effort. The Democratic Senate power brokers, need to be fired starting now.
The defeat of Blue Dog candidates is the best thing that can happen to the Democratic Party. When the Democratic Caucus lets Senators like Landreau and Pryor dictate their actions, the party doesn’t stand for anything. Voters are angry with Democrats for failing to reform Washington and Wall Street, and so long as Senate Democrats allow their “lowest common denominator” to decide, nothing will change.
Mary Landrieu was one of the Senate Democrats who voted to end the filibuster of Samuel Alito’s SCOTUS confirmation, which swung the Court to the extreme right. If you don’t like Citizens United, Hobby Lobby, the gutting of the Voting Rights Act, or any of the other nonsensical 5-4 decisions that have come since 2006, you can thank Senator Landrieu. Good riddance to her.
So having a republican for six years is a better idea? She alone couldn’t have delivered the vote that prevented that from happening.
You’re a moron.
She cannot win.
I think that is fact that is hard to dispute, given the numbers from Tuesday.
Sinking $2 million into her race is throwing money down a hole.
Bush paid a price for his willful, racist, malfeasance on Katrina.
The 100s of thousands of displaced Louisianians and the Democrats they supported are the victims of that willful incompetence, and will be for generations. They paid a far higher price than Shrub.
If I was a conspiracy theorist…
Landrieu needs to EMBRACE Obama, Obamacare, get out the vote…and she will win.
Just borrowing a small line from the oldies group the Fortunes:
“I see that worried look upon your face,
You’ve got your troubles, I got mine.”
You still have juice? Well, that’s great, because that’ll go good with the toast you’ll be having for breakfast.
Use the money to GOTV. Everyone knows who she is, why do more ads. She needs to shore up her base. Her only chance is if democrats come out to vote.
I could agree with that first point if we weren’t talking about the DSCC. Shamefully they don’t seem to have a problem with running away from the President.
It would be an interesting case study if she could now 100% embrace Obama and get that message out and see where it gets her in the runoff.
Well all of these morally pure democrats are going to come out of the hills and shoot the wounded left over from the Republican massacre.
Landrieu provides plenty of important votes for the party that never get reported. I can think of any number of Dems I like better. So what? Have you ever considered that she has to vote right to stay in place? Its a miracle she lasted as long as she did. I want someone who will vote my way about 80% of the time. Waiting for 50 Elizabeth Warrens to get elected to the senate might be a very long wait.
In the meantime, Bill Cassidy will be there voting to cut Medicare, obstruct the government and shifting the tax burden to the middle class and poor. Is that an improvement?
Mail from these groups go straight to my Spam folder but sometimes I read a message, and now that we’ve lost they’re rattling the tin cup because we lost and need to regroup.
The biggest mysteries among the winners who will go against the needs of their constituents, to my mind, are Roberts and Brownback of KS, particularly the latter whose economic policies are bringing the state to its knees. The rural population doesn’t pay attention or what?
And Aladdin had a magic lantern.
No one is arguing (really) that she is worse than the alternative.
The point is that she cannot and will not win, whatever her desirable qualities relative to the GOPer.
She c-a-n-n-o-t win.
Two GOPers got ~56% of the vote. She got 42%. She is not going to get any of the votes cast to the 3rd place candidate, a GOPer.
She c-a-n-n-o-t win.
I don’t disagree. It’s possible to dislike them both.
It’s not about embracing Obama, it’s about not cowering in fear/shame at the D next to your name. Fight for the working class, for the poor, for our social issues. Unapologetically. And stop parroting and spreading rightwing memes. (“We need to fix ACA” etc)
WTF? Did they learn NOTHING from Tuesday?
This run off is winnable. No more money to the DSCC ever again. Only to the campaign.
