Macron doing good. Corporate America (Marriott) not so much.

I don’t know. I read about people living on these islands and upset with governments, but until the storm truly cleared out, what was supposed to happen?
I feel for the poor people who live there and work in poor paying service jobs, but what is really going to change? Based on the US experience (LA,FL and TX, I’m talking about you!) nothing. The rich will be fine and the poor will not.

St. Barts is a really expensive piece of real estate. My guess is it will get all the rebuilding money it needs. The French portion of St. Martin was struggling before the hurricane. The home country probably won’t do much to rebuild it. The Dutch will do more on their half of the island. That is where all the big important pieces of infrastructure are located. I worry about all of the other leeward islands. Nevis was dirt poor before the hurricane. God only knows what the childhood home of Alexander Hamilton is like after the storm.

Although it might not be all that morally uplifting to use the islanders as pawns in a U.S. vs. Europe situation, one could see how they could benefit. Imagine the fallout if European countries lavished rebuilding resources on the islands while Trump, et al., in the storms’ aftermath, pursued tax cuts, gun rights, DREAMER deportation, and voter suppression.
