Well it’s about damn time someone finally acknowledged that. Now how are the dems are going to build upon that for 2018?
Absolutely! It’s not my job to speak for the whole dying breed of white male Democrats, but anyone who doesn’t want me to work until I die is my new best friend these days.
I hope everyone reads this article because this, this right here, is why Clinton won the primary. It’s also why this idiotic, tone deaf notion that Democrats need to ignore minority and women’s issues is so boneheaded and dangerous. It shows a total lack of very basic understanding of who the Democratic Party is and who elects Democrats. And the issues most effecting black women are also the issues effecting the country as a whole. So, anyone who thinks for ten seconds that you can get elected to the presidency, or most anywhere else outside of Vermont, without the support of black women, is a fucking idiot.
Very true…I hope the dems don’t waste so much of their time trying to get working class whites. Their base is now minorities, college educated and young people so I hope they adjust their strategy accordingly
Agreed, but there needs to be strategic planning well in advance of upcoming elections to counteract and overcome the rampant voter suppression efforts of the GOP. In locations, where a photo id is required to vote, make sure those voters get valid photo id’s months before an election. Don’t wait until the GOP government shuts down drivers license facilities in Democratic strongholds. If we can drive voters to the polls on election day, why can’t we drive voters to the DMV months before an election?
In Montgomery, Alabama, 70-year-old Annette Brown said she sometimes considers voting Republican, but there was no way she was going to vote for firebrand Roy Moore. “I’ve been a Democrat all my life, and I’m sure not going to switch for this election. Sometimes I feel like swinging, but not for Moore,” she said.
Any chance TPM could interview this voter?
It is irritating that many of the working class whites do not see where their own self interest lies and elect people who hand money to the wealthy and take it from everybody else. Peeling a few of them off would make us unstoppable but not at the cost of abandoning any of our issues. In most states, getting turnout from our supporters is a better strategy but in some others getting a few of them is the difference between victory and defeat,
