Discussion: Administration Has No Plan For How To Reunite Migrant Children With Parents

When a sadistic plan is causing pain, anguish, and terror… when it breaks hearts and forever destroys love… the sadist is done.

The children are classified as unaccompanied minors, a legal term generally used for children who cross the border alone and have a possible sponsor in the U.S. willing to care for them.

This is the crux of the problem the tRump administration is exacerbating and making much worse. They are intentionally creating unaccompanied minors by implementing this idiotic policy of his. These children for the most part are coming as accompanied minors with a parent(s) and are taken from them, and reclassified. Then, they are no longer treated as having committed a civil infraction or misdemeanor but are charged with an offense in which they are jailed or set up as common criminals. Once they are separated from family, parents lose the ability to know exactly where their children have been placed…setting off a whole new set of problems especially if the children are pre-verbal while held in gov’t custody. Because tRump no longer wants anyone crossing the border to be allowed asylum in the country for fleeing a dangerous country as refugees, refugee services are not being offered to these parents or notified to intervene and follow up on many of these families that normally would have had an appointment set up to come before a judge. Yet it seems that the children are being treated as refugees because refugee services in some states are being contacted to find placement through the foster care system. Some children are being reported as having been flown to those locations.

Unreal. They’ve butchered the entire process and it was already a mess before they made it even more messier from the way I understand it.

Plans, we don’t need no stinkin’ plans!

If this was happening anywhere else in the world, we would be screaming “Where is the Red Cross”? This situation is only get worse esp. when some of the kids turn up missing or worse.
This is all on Trump and the complicit GOP!

I live on a small Island off the east coast of Canada, Cape Breton.

Most of our opinion news here is pretty tame stuff - municipal affairs, transit, road conditions, etc.

Here’s the first thing I read today - https://capebreton.lokol.me/lest-we-forget---or-have-we-already-forgotten

Sums up my feelings nicely - most people around here feel the same. Trump is a baby-Nazi. He cannot be allowed to grow up. Good luck folks, we have your backs.

This is making me so anxious. They really need to freeze all deportations and maybe bring everyone to a stadium or something and let them find each other. This is beyond incompetent. At this point I wouldn’t mind if they tagged and numbered everyone with a barcode–just so kids and parents can be kept track of.

Cape Breton island is a beautiful place. You are lucky to live there. I am a lifelong New Englander. My mothers side of the family is from New Brunswick so we went up to visit often when I was a kid. Two places we always went to when we went up was magnetic mountain and Cape Breton island. My son and I even checked out real estate prices on the island about a year ago. Very reasonable compared to our part of MA. If our way of life down here gets destroyed by the orange menace in the white-house we would not hesitate a minute to move up there. That said we would prefer that our republic hold fast so we can stay in New England.

Of the things this Admin. is bereft of …

a plan … is way down the list —

It really is bad. Once the parents are criminalized and sent to a jail, rather than adjudicated for asylum as refugees, which tRump’s policy is no longer permitting in any substantial way, these immigrants can be deemed unfit, and once deported have no way to find where their children have been relocated by Health and Human Services. The children’s parents can also have parental rights terminated for having brought them across the border with the bogus rationale that this is a form of neglect or abuse which placed the child in danger. That’s what criminalizing these immigrants can theoretically lead to on a massive scale. Its punishing what for the most part are asylum seekers who are not being given the opportunity to plead their case in front of an immigration judge as is supposed to be the way it works. And the gov’t is clogging the system with far too many people where the gov’t and contracted service workers have limited resources to provide placement and adequate judicial review. There aren’t even enough immigration lawyers to handle these cases as it is.

The bottom line is the tRump administration is going after legal immigration, not just illegal immigration.

How is it possible to deport a child? To where and released to who? So many questions and no answers. This is absolute high risk, high cost chaos.

When it sinks in that no effort was put in place to enable parents to be reunited with their kids, anyone not lost in conservative media crazytown will be horrified. This is a stain on our nation’s soul that will be impossible to wash away.

Oh for “pretty lame stuff” again : - )
