Do Donald Trump’s “gaffes” really hurt him?

No. Next question.

Looks pretty softball. In the eyes of Trump’s supporters, these statements are good, true and righteous. Come on, guys, you’re attempting to shame the shameless – it ain’t gonna work.

Given what Josh said earlier today, if Rump hasn’t been taken down YET despite these “Trumpisms” what makes Kasich think it’s gonna work now in some sort of mashup?? This is just lame, weak tea

Kasich trying to appear as the reasonable adult in the GOP field. All you need to do is look at some of his rightwing policies as Governor of Ohio, and you’ll see he’s only better than tRump because he just implements RWNJ policies, without all the bluster.

Remember, Kasich pushed ending Collective Bargaining. He also applied for, and got a waiver to extend SNAP benefits for rural (read predominantly White) counties in Ohio, but not for urban (read predominantly Minority) counties. He’s also said very little about the killings of John Crawford and Tamir Rice. On top of that, he’s said nothing about police misconduct in his state. So SCREW him.

Maybe an effort to portray himself as Jack the Giant Killer to the E$tablishment mover-shakers? Not sure what else he’d hope to accomplish at this point.

Trump owns the Republican base at this point. Meaning he’s the favorite for the Republican presidential nomination. And if they find a way to blackball him, he’ll run as an Independent. Either way, bad situation for the Republicans, because I still don’t think he can win in the general election.

Well. Obviously Kasich hasn’t been paying attention to the race he himself is supposedly in. That reveal in itself is kinda sad.

None of Trump’s “gaffes” (including his out-and-out racist, islamophobic, xenophobic and downright fascistic comments) are going to hurt him with the hard-core Republican base of ignorant bigots. But they do hurt him with independents and swing voters. If he makes it to the general election, drawing attention to these same “gaffes” (and the many he will, no doubt, produce between now and then) will do real damage. But for now, they don’t hurt him in the Republican primary. Might even help him.

This is premature. The Ultimate Donald Trump Mashup won’t be ready til next summer. You think Trump’s saying crazy, repulsive shit now? He hasn’t even gotten warmed up yet.

Everything the GOP seems to be doing in this election is a waste of time.

Trump can’t win a general election, but no one can defeat him in the primary. So Kasich et al are out there ‘campaigning’ in a contest they can’t win. And even if one of them does manage to unseat him by some miracle and get the nomination, not a single one of them (including Kasich) can win a general election, either.

I’m wasting my time even talking about them!

I guess all of this is ‘fun’ to watch, but it comes at the expense of America’s dignity. Too bad the GOP doesn’t have any of that, either.

This is such weak sauce. If this is the best the Anti-Trump forces in the Republican party can come up with, then they should just stop, or they’ll risk ensuring his nomination.

I would have gone with his really fascist statements.

I think its pretty clear; he wants to be seen as the experienced guy willing to do the dirty work necessary for the party to win. AKA A bulldog, which makes for a great VP. Like for say…Rubio.

That’s been the dream team matchup for a lot of Establishment type players for quite some time because…Ohio+Florida. Youth+Experience. Argle+Bargle.

Even if Rubio doesn’t win, Kasich will receive kudos behind closed doors for trying to stop Trump. My feeling however, is despite the “news leak” that several GOP PACs were lining up to start an attack on Trump, Kasich is going to find himself alone in this battle of the airwaves. Trump is already “reminding” the GOP of their deal to “play nice”, or he goes 3rd party.

I’m still trying to figure out why the choice of The Blue Danube Waltz as background music. There are better themes for Trump out there. For example:

I would hesitate to say anyone is favored for the nomination at this point in time, before any elections have actually taken place and with such a very crowded field. Yes Trump leads in the polls, but he is still a long way off from having majority support. And the GOP nomination is going to require a majority of the delegates. I can look at the numbers and take a wild guess at how Cruz gets there. I can also take a similar guess at how Rubio gets there. I can’t look at the polling and guess how going forward Trump gets the majority of delegates, however.

Basically, I am expecting to see a still very muddled field by the end of February, probably until at least March 15. March 1st primaries will knock a lot of people still standing out of it for once and for all, but until we start to get to the “winner take all” primaries, we still aren’t going to have a good idea of how this will pan out. And even then I expect there to be 3-4 strong candidates going forward into April. But at least we will know if people should start strategizing for a brokered convention or not.

Let the games begin!

Remember this is for the Republican primary. You don’t want to take a risk of attracting more votes.

I’m not sure regurgitating the Trump lines that are already well known is going to bring Kasich any closer to being named VP nominee, which is the best he could hope for now. He should probably lay low for the next few months and just get on his knees and give thanks he is from Ohio. It’s the only reason any one in the GOP is still listening to him.
