So there are limits to what they will make up after all? I am amazed. Why not just say that the tariffs will encourage the Mexican government to break out their unicorns to drive the people who are trying to cross the border back to their homes?
It’s hard to explain stupid.
come on ! … this shit’s complicated —
Us make things worse so things get better. Uh huh. Boss say always work. Him smart as shit.
While we’re still at it, has anyone from Team Trump explained why the China tariffs wouldn’t hurt farmers?
One question I’d like to see asked is whether the administration ever considered trying to come up with an actual solution that might help Mexico deal with the problem on their side. You know, like when the Clinton administration made a loan to Mexico (fully repaid) that helped to improve their economy.
ETA: Obviously, this would be treated as a gotcha question.
You mean like REAL help that won’t benefit Trump directly? No way.
Question: If a U.S. citizen made an illegal border crossing into Canada or Mexico, would our border patrol stop them? Countries are set up to stop people coming in, not people leaving (with obvious exceptions like North Korea).
Why not just send Luca Brasi to convey the message? No need to stand on ceremony. Nice Country you have down there. It’d be a shame if something were to happen to it.
Foreign Policy for thugs.
Hey, why not just threaten Guatemala directly? That should really help. I heard they say nasty things about you.
The bottom line for anyone viewing this objectively is that Trump is a sadist and things that hurt people are the only tactics his extremely sick and limited mind can envision.
Sadly, being able to inflict harm is the easiest and most obvious way that he can show how powerful he is. Anything more noble than such a motivation is foreign to his nature and impossible for him to imagine. He loves to burn ants with his magnifying glass.
Acting Homeland Security Secretary Kevin McAleenan couldn’t explain on Sunday morning how President Donald Trump’s proposed tariffs on Mexico wouldn’t just push more people to cross the border due to poor economic conditions caused by said tariffs.
Because by definition If you’re working for Trump you’re a bought and sold sycophant.
This applies to them all when asked to explain and they start the Sarah “Ham Hock” Sanders two step
Think of it as the Laffer Curve of immigration policy. The lower the economy of Mexico sinks the more the people will want to stay there. Medal of Freedom quality planning.
Another example of the Trump Maladministration.
I’m not sure if you need a passport, as a US citizen walking or driving into Canada or Mexico. You probably just need a gov. Issued ID. If you’re flying, you do need a passport now.
So illegally crossing into these other countries probably isn’t a big issue for US citizens.
You do need a passport - not necessarily a passport book, but at least a passport card. The passport card is only good for land or sea travel into Mexico and Canada (and the Caribbean nations), but it is necessary to legally travel to either country.
I remember when we could visit Canada without a passport, but now we are probably seen as a hostile neighbor.
“Bottom line for me is we need them at the table looking at new strategies that we can aggressively move out on,” the acting DHS secretary said.
Yes yes yes, @mattinpa.
Why on fucking earth should this Administration engage in some real diplomacy, based on historical knowledge and empathy with Mexico and the people migrating, when it is so Trump to just do some White Racist Posturing for FOX and the Babbitt Base of the GOP?
