Very sad but not surprising. My elderly father, a college football fan and former Joe Paterno worshiper, will be disappointed again by this news. Powerful, revered “legends” sometimes do anything (or ignore heinous behavior) to keep that status.
Here in Central PA it was said that Saint Joepa knew everything that happened on campus and what his football players and coaches were doing at all times.
When the Sandusky thing surfaced all the Paterno worshippers, claimed he did not know anything.
It is difficult to live in an area where folks worship a false god.
So we are into the three digit John Doe’s. Guess that is what happens when you let stuff go on for 35 years.
Some movies you never expect to have a sequel. Spotlight may not be one of them.
And sadly I’d bet many coaches let this bad and worse shit that their players and coaches did and are doing just so they can win. Ultimately driven by job/money, but also the bragging rights of winning.
My bet would be that this is the dirty little culture of some athletic programs, and not just in collegiate athletics.
